Container plants should not be watered according to a calender, but on an 'as needed' basis. If the soil feels dry when you dig your fingers into it, then you need to drench your plant. If it still feels cool and damp, then you can probably wait. A very dry plant will wilt. Chronically under watered plants will begin to shut down their biological systems, drop leaves and go into decline. Many things can determine the watering frequency: kind of potting medium, the kind of container, size of plant in relation to the container, amount of sunlight, temperature, humidity, etc.

My very first citrus was a twig that had a 3 leaves on it... which dropped all 3, when I plotted it. but it came back and then it took 5 years to find out it was a calamondin! Any who. The best advice i can give: When moving pots from inside to outside or vice versa, you NEED to acclimate the trees. move then into shaded areas before moving them in, and move them into shaded areas before moving them into full sun (yes, the tree will get sunburned) A window that gets full sun all day isn't the same as spot in your yard that gets full sun. Watering may vary for you, than from everyone else.(Most everyone will tell you not to water that much in the winter) For me, my house has very low humidity (25%) and the soil drys out fast. I can water my trees once every 2 days sometimes. Soil.... well, you want something that can dry out easily. Most citrus roots don't like being wet all the time. But again you have to know your tree. Is it grafted or stock root? (Just a side note, where I live got 18 days straight rain last summer, and I didn't suffer any root rot. But you have to know your tree and soil.) Just another side note: Most citrus trees are survivors. When a tree is healthy, it will be next to impossible to kill.

I think you're right, it probably dried out instead of burnt. ===>>> we are getting you there.. but it did burn.. but not from sun.. from root drying .. conifers are trees.. and they need a very specific potting media... when you repot.. you will probably be better off with a cactus media.. rather than a high peat mix which is usually sold for houseplants ... perhasp a new post on that theme when you get to that point.. and timing might be important .... what do the rest of you say about that ???? .. taxo.. they clearly said they were apartment bound with not even a balcony .. they have no outdoor options.. though you are correct that would be best ... please. please.. PLEASE ... transfer your memories to the pot ... trees are NOT HOUSEPLANTS [check out the link] ... sooner or later.. it is going to fail ... but you can always have the pot ... when you repot ... plant a true houseplant in the smaller pot.. and keep the memories alive in that .... and then .. if the repotting fails.. or time just catches up with your apartment tree .... grandma can still be with you ... that is the simplest solution to your conundrum ... good luck ken Here is a link that might be useful: link

My potted citrus tree is 12 years old and until recently has thrived indoors. It was started from seed and I don't know if it is a lemon or orange tree as it has never flowered. This year, new leaf growth has been stunted and the tree has strange looking spikey shoots (see photo). Is my potted citrus tree sick? Any advice would be much appreciated.
