Old Fixer, although I use the FamilySearch.org web site, and have also used the LDS Family History Library as well as a local Family History Center, I do not have a tree uploaded to their web site. So, I cannot say whether or not "just anyone" can edit information on a tree that is on their site. I will look into that, though. I do know with certainty, however, that if you have a tree on Ancestry.com, you can mark it as Private. No one can see info that is on the tree unless you send them an invitation to see it. If you add photos or images of documents, etc., to a Private tree, small thumbnails will show up when other people do a search on a name, but if anyone clicks on the thumbnail to see a larger version, they will get an error message that the tree is private. You can also have a tree on Ancestry.com that is marked as Public. When a tree is Public, anyone can see information/photos, etc., for anyone who is deceased, or presumed to be deceased (e.g., they were born in 1884 and you don't have a death date, but it's easy to see that the person would not still be alive - they'd be 130 years old this year). If the person is still living, or presumed to still be living, all anyone can see is a shadow profile of either a male's head or a female's head. For the name it would say Living Fixer, so no one can even tell what the person's first name is (this example uses "Fixer" as the surname). And, even if a tree is marked Public, no one can change anything on it, unless you invite the person to be an editor. You can invite people to just view the tree (they would be invited with a "Guest" designation); or you can give them the ability to add to the tree (they would be invited with a "Contributor" designation); or you can invite them as an "Editor" with full ability to add/change/remove information/people. People who are invited as Guests and/or Contributors can be given the ability to view living persons, but that's not the default setting. You have to deliberately give them that ability. Anyone invited as an Editor automatically can see everything.

Well, went to take the cakes out of their pans late last night (yes, fully cooled). The one in the loaf pan, came out just fine. Then I tried to remove the one in the tube pan - total disaster! About 1/4 of it just fell to pieces. I had never before made this recipe - I used to make my mother's old dark fruitcake. My mother had made my cousin's fruitcake for me for several years before she died. I think this recipe needs more batter if one is going to bake it in anything other than loaf pans. It has a TON of fruit and nuts in it. All the "broken" stuff was really delicious, even without having "aged". If I make it again, I'll double the amount of batter. Live and learn. I have no idea how my mother made it work. She was known for "changing" a recipe and never telling anyone that she did so when giving them her recipe. She took much to the grave with her... When I got married for the first time in 1966, my mother and I spent the summer baking fruitcake, putting in the little boxes with our names and the wedding date gold stamped on them, and tying 150 little white satin ribbons around them with a nice bow. I still have one tucked away in a drawer somewhere as a souvenir. We didn't go to that much bother for my 2nd marriage, but it's the one that worked...

Cat is down. The guy brought a thing....not sure what it is called....like used in hunting deer. He got within about 6 ft of the cat, held up a crate above his head that had food in it, and the cat literally dove into it. Unfortunately, I was in the barn, feeding horses, and missed seeing it. The cat is in surprisingly good condition to have been up there for 8 days. He was very hungry and thirsty. He keeps going back and forth to the water bowl. Right now he is asleep on a stool in the kitchen....I am sure it will be the first restful night he has had since his ordeal began. He is going to stay in the house. The cat didn't have a name, but I named him DJ after the guy who rescued him.

My mother's parent's both immigrated from Italy - small villages in the Italian Alps not far from the Swiss border. My mother's parents also immigrated from northern Italy, Piemonte to be be more exact -- one from a small village north of Torino, and one from a small city (they met in Los Angeles). I made contact with her father's family, or rather a cousin in Torino searched and found us in California. I visited, and went with my cousin to see where the family originated. We went to the municipio, and for a few centesimi, obtained a copy of my grandfather's birth certificate. They still had huge ledgers with handwritten entries for births going back centuries -- the small number of people living there probably made storage of the ledgers possible. My father's father returned to his town in Toscana in his last years; I visited his grave so I have his date of death. I wrote the province and asked for information on his birth and death certificates, and surprisingly received an answer. I qualify to apply for Italian citizenship based on my father's father, or at least I did the last I checked, but other circumstances tossed a roadblock and long detour in my path. With the current rise of the Italian far right, I'm not sure I want to take the chance of reliving the days of fascists brawling in the streets.
