We have almost completed remodeling a small bathroom in our 70 year old home. Used 2 inch hex honed bianco gregio (Carrara) marble for the floor. White vanity with Carrara top. White subway tub/shower surround. BM glass slipper (very light blue grey) walls. I'd add pictures, but I don't know how and no time to learn at the moment. All trim work is white. I love the look. Clean and airy. I chose Laticrete Silver Shadow grout for the floor. Marble and grout have been sealed. Non white grout, sealing, and the use of a ph neural cleaner should help with keeping the floor clean looking, hopefully. The use of the mini brick would also depend on the amount and type of use your bathroom has, and number & age of children in your family. Also, how frequently it will be cleaned and how well you like to clean. You may not want to be a slave to keeping it clean. IMO your choices for the bathroom are perfect. I agree with no wainscoting. We had similar reasoning-too sterile. Will the subway border on the floor be seen in most of the floor area or will it be hidden? If mostly hidden I'd forego the border. Here's my list of what I would consider. Others have mentioned most of these, I think. 1. Range wall. Drawer stacks next to the fridge. I personally wouldn't worry about symmetry in the base cabinets. Center the range between the corner and the fridge and keep the wall cabinets symmetrical, which I think you have done. Is the cabinet on the right end of the range wall a blind corner pullout? If not, why not use drawers here. 2. Island Move the prep sink closer to the fridge, not across from the range as it is now. This would be a real nuisance if someone was cooking and another person was prepping. Does anything go between the island and the windows to the right? If that is just waste space, yes, I would make the island longer and put a drawer stack in. Not so if you will have a table there. Can you make the island wider? Do you need almost 9 feet of seating at the island? Is the dining table right below the island? Or to the right of it? Even without lengthening the island, you could certainly use a 2' drawer stack on the seating side and still have room for seating for three if the island were wider. Drawers here would be a great place for table linens, among other things. 3. Sink wall Why no wall cabs on sink wall? You can use the easy reach corner wall cabs here and it looks like another four or five feet of cabs between sink and door. That's a lot of storage to lose. And it's awfully nice to have dishes and glassware stored right by the dishwasher. I agree with numbersjunkie about putting one of the trash receptacles under the cleanup sink, assuming there is another one is by the prep sink. Most of the trash is generated during prep. And you could certainly use another drawer stack. I understand wanting the sink centered on the window which means that DW and trash, if that is what it is, must be on the left side of the sink. Certainly not optimal. Overall comment: 1. You only have 5 deep storage drawers. I would really try to find space for more. The little top drawers are nice, but don't hold much. I had no idea how much I would love drawers. I'm watching the Olympics as I type this. Hope it makes sense.

I need to warn you. I'm not one of the talented design gurus here, just an interested amateur. I think Lisa was working with the wrong dimensions, correct? I wrote them on the diagram. Please let me know if they're correct. If so, cpartist is right. You don't have room for an island. I left off your peninsula only because you never answered the question Lisa asked: If a peninsula is put in the location in your original plan, will you have at least 60" from the edge of the peninsula to the edge of your dining table? That is the minimum needed to have seating at both and still have room to walk if people are seated at both locations. Anyway, the best I could do is this: First, let me know if the dimensions are accurate. I didn't bother to draw uppers in on the fridge wall. The blue line will be about 117" fro the end of the counter to the edge of the kitchen. The yellow line measure will be about 86" from north counter edge to south counter edge and about 81" across where the fridge is (unless you get a true counter-depth/built-in). A lot of people do something a bit different in kitchens like yours that adds counter space and storage. They go with 30" deep counters. This adds a lot more counter space and, if you get custom cabinets, also a lot more storage with the deeper drawers. It will allow you to make a regular fridge look more built-in as the counter-depth will come out to the fridge door (you do need to allow for door swing). It also gives more space behind the range for less grease splatter on the backsplash and behind the sink for cleaning items (or pretties). If you do that, the north/south green line would be 74" and the east/west will be 105". Without an island or other blockage, there is plenty of room to walk from fridge to sink so crossing over the cook's area isn't a problem. It's not the most creative layout but it is a functional one. I know your wife wants some glass uppers. I wouldn't recommend them right next to the range and hood due to potential grease collection in that proximity, harder to keep clean. Also, keep in mind, your hood should be larger than your cooktop. I think you're going for a 36" cooktop? If so, you need a 42" hood. With a 30" cooktop, you need a 36" hood. If you go with the wider hood and have a couple inches clearance on each side before the upper cabinets start, then glass doors there should work fine. Hope this helps a bit. Have you read the "New to Kitchens? Read Me First" thread? If not, please do. It kinda bounces around from pages 1-3.

Look for a vintage set (table and chairs) in a wood tone similar to the top of your dining table. I think that would lighten up the kitchen and yet connect with the other rooms. I would get backless stools for perching, remove or lighten the shade on the door and find a more colorful rug for under the kitchen table or even paint the base of the table a bright turquoise or apple green. Can't quite tell what other colors you have as accents.
