The best time to repot dracaena is during the part of the growth cycle in which they exhibit the most robust growth, so between Fathers Day and July 4th. If you live in the southern half of the continental US, you have a larger window of opportunity, that being from Memorial Day - mid-July. Spring is actually NOT a good time because they have little in the way of energy reserves after a winter of repressed growth and won't tolerate the root work well. There IS a big difference between repotting and potting up. One ensures the plant much greater opportunity to grow to it's genetic potential (repotting), while potting up ensures perpetual limitations unless undertaken before the root/soil mass reaches the point it can be lifted from the pot intact. The two issues (other than root congestion) that most commonly causing problems for dracaena owners are too much water and not enough air in the root zone due to watering habits and an unsuitable soil, and a high level of dissolved solids (salts) in the soil solution. Fluoride content is accumulative in the plant and fluoride toxicity is common, but it's still a secondary issue to a high TDS count. agree .... its stressed from shipping and potting ... just water it properly for a month or 3 ... and let it settle down .... and then start picking off dead leaves.. and cutting back damaged ones ... i highly doubt it will fail ... unless you kill it with too much love ... since its stressed.. food is not a proper response.. no fert being in MI .. i highly doubt it was ever grown outdoors ... maybe there was a cold event during shipping ... who knows .. being upside down obviously didnt help ... ive bought or pulled out of the trash.. much worse looking plants of this type ... you can barely kill them ... ken

Shoody, thanks for the video! So I cut some of the stems and separated the different trunks (there may have been some root loss when removing the very old soil, nothing major) because once the soil was removed the roots were easily loosened from each other’s grasp. I repotted two of the trunks in the pot it came from and put the other two in a different pot. So they each have more room than they did before. Both are reacting the same way. Wish I had known about repotting times :( I had seen a video that said late summer was the perfect time to do it for this plant. It’s still hot where I live so maybe the prolonged sunlight/temps will make up for it.

yes! i think it's a match! tell if i am being picky..the only difference from pics that is see is that on 'my plant' flower/fruit clusters are not round, but elongated. and the central vein on the leaves is almost invisible, but on canella it is quite well defined. may be just variations?
