OT: Went crazy planting the spring bulbs
Comments (29)Sharon- I never used to even know what Dutch iris are. But since I first saw pictures of them, I have really loved them. Decided to finially have them in a big display. If they die out after afew years (like tulips do around here) well, they are reallly cheap to replace. They come in small bubs that look very much like onion sets. I know Kay has them and I love to see her pictures of them blooming each spring. Funny you should dream about them. Not totally sure what you mean but I think you mean your bearded iris. I really think you can plant them anytime and they will just grow. Sure are pretty when they bloom in the spring though....See MoreBrass better be back! Check out this lamp I bought!
Comments (16)Nanny2a - If I'm understanding what you wrote the bottom of my lamp shade should be like 20" in diameter? That sounds and looks huge? Did I do that right? I measured from the bottom to the bottom of the socket base and got 22". Hmmm.. Threed - Oh no I wouldn't light them. They don't fit anyhow. I'll have to head to a lamp store with the lamp in hand. Chloe - I don't know that the tea lights would look right. I don't think I even have any to try right now though. Trailrunner - Thank you for those sites! The candle covers sound way better than the folded paper idea. ha I like the look of the candle cover things. What do you put on the top part? Or nothing because it's covered? Here's the ebay lamp I was talking about. I emailed the seller asking about the height of the shade. The bottom of it is 17" the top is 13". Lamp height is 35" I bought this shade just to get an idea. This is made so that you don't have to use a harp so I think it sits too low and it's not wide/big enough. This shade is 14" at the bottom, 10" top and height is 9.25". So I'm thinking I need one similar to the size of the ebay one? I'm going to try and find some lamp stores this week. Hopefully someone can help me and what I need is all right there....See MoreI went to a "thing" last night
Comments (8)Never learned to sew anything other than the required "home ec" school projects, lol. What I really don't understand is "this senior person at a fabric company could not answer a question about copying designs and copyright." Whether you're a professional or a "lay" guest with the sewing skills of an accomplished home seamstress, isn't the point learning about fabrics in order to buy same to replicate a design idea into something that would work in your own/client's home? Was this a "thing" directed at professional decorators, or just the average home seamstress interested in making their own home decor items? Obviously, I'm missing something regarding copyright being be an issue?...See MoreI've stolen Igloo's pic & have a lamp question!
Comments (26)Ehhhh... you should wait until the last few secs to bid Jenn! Try Bidnapper...it does all the work for you in the last 100th of a sec. You've got to hold your cards until the bitter end.... That bed has a funny story. I was routinely hitting my roster of antique stores in and around Denver for about 6 months getting items to furnish the ranch with....that wasn't ANY fun at all! :) Anyhoos, I hit this larger one one Friday and didn't see anything. On Sat, our handyman who was doing the plumbing/electrical for us needed a very rare/old electrical part and he found a store that carried one. Well, off I go Monday to get it and as it turns out it's about 10 blocks from this antique store that I had just been in. It was pretty early...about 9am but they were just opening up. I said to myself, " well, I WAS just in there but I'll do a quick run through." I walk in and there is a middle aged couple actually BRINGING this bed into their booth to set up....not so fast I say! LOL (It was EXACTLY what I had pictured in my mind) Well, timing was perfect as any other dealer in there would have grabbed it first to re-sell. They had had the bed for 25 yrs in a guest room and didn't research at all...$275. I didn't even negotiate cuz I felt guilty and they were very, very nice people. Took it to a furniture restorer to have it lengthened and his eyes popped out of his head when I told him what we paid. Oh, it is a rope bed btw. We had a special box spring made for it to bring it OUT to a full size...it was a 3/4 bed....See More- 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
