Why I'm NOT finishing my rose pruning this week

Well, it started with the sewer line. Not a good start to anything. We had to replace the line and also bring it up to code to the street (the sewer company will take it from there). Naturally this ran through a hillside area where I had planted native shrubs.

I was lucky. The company that did the work carefully dug up all my plants and heeled them in out of their way, a courtesy that is almost unheard of. I am very grateful! But now I have the task of replanting all the shrubs when I'd rather be pruning and weeding the roses on the back fence and in the Olive Tree Garden.

Forgive me this grumble. It needed to be done, and the workmen were actually very generous to me. They did not need to do that. And like Jon of Wessex in a similar if more extreme situation before me, I am taking advantage of the situation to make that area a little better than it was previously.

I guess the roses will just have to wait a bit longer.
