What is this weed and what is my plan of attack?

This weed popped up everywhere in my yard in November, literally when I was out of town traveling. I hit it once with 2-4D, but no second helping as it finally turned colder. Then temps got mild again in December and it has not dwindled much at all. Maybe a little wilting, but it still looks fairly green and health as you can see.....and it's everywhere!! My yard is going to have serious holes in it when I kill this stuff.

So how should I go about ridding myself of this infestation? What should be my plan?

Hard to tell from this altitude and the lens Vaseline factor. Are those tiny yellow flowers? If so I would suggest it might be horse herb. That can be tough to get rid of or easy depending on your lawn type.

Where do you live?

What kind of grass do you have?

Can you be more specific about the brand and name of the 2-4,d product you used? They're not all the same. Furthermore if you have St Augustine, you may have killed the grass with that spray.

No tiny little flowers. (I'll try to get a better pic as well.) I live in VA, grass is TTTF with some KBG. I used Bayer Advanced Lawn Week Killer.

One of the reasons I think this stuff came up is I did not use a preM this fall because I aerated and overseeded in September. The yard looked astounding, then this stuff started coming up.

I was going through each of the stands. Some weren't listed on the report. Actually 2 of 3 in the Rebels Mix weren't listed... but Rebel IV had the highest score out of all of the stand in all of the mixes, although they were all pretty close. The only thing is, I'm in South Jersey... I think all those trials are either in North Jersey or PA... so I'm not sure which soil is more like South Jersey! haha... either way I'm sure the Lesco or Rebels will do fine. The only thing I have to check on is weed seed.... That may be the deciding factor... if one blend has 0% weed seed and Rebels has .05%... that may be the deal breaker... we'll see.

"I've spent so much money on these two tomatoes so far that buying fungicide when the fungus isn't curable seems like a waste :/" "The plants that got attacked are ones that I started from store bought tomatoes and the cherry tomatoes I'm growing from actual bought seeds seem to be doing fine so I'm sure the hybrids just weren't grown to be disease resistant :/" Just to clear up apparent misunderstandings here. First, fungus infections are not curable true, but they can easily be prevented and can also be slowed down with the use of fungicides. There are many effective fungicides, both organic and synthetic, that when used correctly from the day of plant out prevent fungus diseases. It is your choice whether to use them or not of course but if you have chronic annual infections, especially Anthracnose, it is worth giving it some thought. Second, good garden and surrounding area hygiene plays a major role in preventing the spread of fungus diseases. They can often over-winter easily on surrounding weeds and plant debris. Sheltered garden areas with less than ideal air circulation are more prone to developing these diseases. Anthracnose is the least common of the common tomato diseases and if it is a chronic problem for you then off-season intervention may be necessary. Third, store-bought or seed grown makes no difference. Fungus spores are air borne and indiscriminately latch onto ANY tomato variety or type then simply lie dormant until the climate conditions trigger them into growth. No variety or type is truly resistant to them although a few thicker skin varieties seem to tolerate them a little better. Dave

You need a sanding block. Or you’ll sand in waves. And you need to hit it with a prime coat to judge how smooth it may be it in reality. It takes multiple coats of both if you’re trying to fill grain. You just doubled your work to try to do that. And it’s a lot of work to begin with. Most people are willing to deal with the telegraphing grain. Because if they aren’t, buying new doors is by far the better option to reduce the pain. .

One of the arguments against aerating is that it brings weed seeds to the surface.

If you can get a picture from about 3 inches away that will help. If it has flowers, that helps, too.

Looks like chickweed to me. Ortho CCO should take it out. The hot weather in summer will do it in too. I don't know about using herbicides in February. The recommended time is when the weed is actively growing.So it might be better to wait until April. A pre-emergent in the fall will help prevent next year's seeds from germinating.

It's Chickweed. In mild climates it will flower and seed all winter. It needs clear soil to germinate and is usually a weed of cultivation rather than lawns. So if you can thicken up the sward it shouldn't be able to dominate.

Call Ortho customer service and ask about applying Weed B Gon CCO in the winter. I've now read something that says it's better to tackle weeds early and to do it before the spring greenup. Ortho should know if that is recommended for its product. You can also just get out and pull it up. It pulls up easily. A single plant takes up a lot of area. You may be surprised at how much you can get up by pulling.
