Comments (5)Jr Chef I agree with you the wording needs to be changed from Should to Recommend. All ranges and cooktops do benefit from over sizing the hood, but it is not essential. Again on the combustible materials needing to be 36" from the range top i agree the wording and the diagram could be better. My understanding is this provided the lowest point your wall cabinets are 18" from the counter top you can use a 30" range with a 30" Stainless steel hood and set that hood 30" from the range top. If your wall cabinets are lower than 18" from the counter you need to move the wall cabinets 3" to the left and right of the range thereby giving you a need for a 36" hood, if however you are using an insert the lowest point of the cabinet above the range must be 36" from the range top. As you note it is ALWAYS wise to check with your designer, architect or local inspector as to the local code to prevent expensive mistakes. As for the hoods they are available with an expected 6 weeks delivery or 8 weeks delivery if a customer wants the hood the same color as the range....See MoreWhat was the first meal you cooked in your new kitchen?
Comments (18)The first thing I want to cook in my new kitchen is Popovers Alton Brown made them one night on his show and it amazed me how something so simple and runny could come out so beautiful...LOL So the next night I went to Williams-Sonoma and bought a popover pan. It is the only thing in my cabinet so far. I'll be sure to take pictures and maybe hang it on the wall like they hang the first dollar in a new business. Cindy...See MoreWhat was your first meal?
Comments (13)Actually, Raro, it was a blessing. :) I didn't have Ricsfan's problem. I didn't have time. I was scrambling to find the dishes, to unpack enough kitchen stuff that there was room in the living room for the company, etc., and cooking furiously. I had to use E-Z-Foil for the turkey, which was very juicy and made a shambles of the oven. And the floor, and the island. I sometimes joke to people who are worried about messing up their kitchens that they should have a troop of Junior girl scouts in to do their baking badges. After that's cleaned up, the intimidation is gone. Seder was like that for me. It also required use of every single one of my new appliances. :) Best way ever to demonstrate that it was all worth it. :)...See MorePics - First Meal in the New Kitchen!
Comments (7)Thanks y'all! I really hadn't intended on posting pictures of the kitchen until it was done - there is SO MUCH left - but I had so much fun cooking that first day (what a great Christmas present!) that I had to share! LOL. The cabs are Hertco - door style Flopan clear alder with the 3" stile in Wheat Sheaf with the Heirloom finish on the perimeter and Brandy with Black Accent on the island. The granite is Verde Butterfly. Almost all of the appliances are Kitchenaid Architect Series except for the cooktop (Dacor) and the built in microwave (also Dacor, but not shown here YET). The sink is a 3618 Shaw and the faucet is the Kohler Vinnata. Hmmm, what else? The pulls are Top Knobs oil rubbed bronze (though the knobs have yet to be installed). The paint is BM Van Courtland Blue. This was before Christmas, so I hadn't received all my kitchen-related Christmas loot yet (including some Le Creuset cookware and all sorts of utensils). I went to Organize It! and got inserts for the drawers which I highly recommend. I appreciated that my KD did NOT try to sell me on the Hertco inserts. All my drawers are full extension Blum, as are the roll out shelves in the cabinets. I think that is all for right now. Once I have my pendants up and buy stools, etc, I will have more information. And of course once the backsplash is in and the crown is up it will look more complete! Thank you for all of the support! I will definitely visit this site even after I am done!!!...See MoreTerri_PacNW
