Is this good Aloe soil?

I'm a relatively new aloe owner, and recently I discovered one of my Aloe's leaves turning brown at the base. Now, the rot isn't the issue, really. I removed the leaf and re-potted it as I read I was supposed to, but what I want to know is if the soil is alright for the aloe.

The only soil I had on hand was a mix made for orchids - it says it has excellent drainage and moisture retention, and seeing as the previous soil it was in what I believe was entirely peat soil I figured that it had to be at least some kind of improvement. I'll admit that I did mix in a good amount of the previous soil, because at the time I was afraid the Orchid mix was too chunky, but I can easily re-pot it over again if need be.

The Aloe itself is a small, grocery-store-bought variety, if it's important. A decent size, but not nearly as big as some of the pictures I've seen aloe can apparently get to.

Any help would be appreciated - I really don't want my Aloe to die off so soon. Or at all, if possible.
