It sounds like it's OK, but a picture's worth my 387 words or so on the subject. Bagged soils are known to make claims of great porosity, only for the saddened plant owner finding out it wasn't necessarily so. Chunky's not so bad, and Aloes can live in a variety of soils, but they don't like wet feet. Assuming it does have enough drainage, and you haven't watered your repotted plant at all (wait several days after repotting, as well as after you've confirmed you won't have to repot it again).

And most Aloes start out small. After all, you don't want to have to repot this your first time, right?

You repotted, I wonder if you took any photos of the root system? Or can you at least describe what the root system looked like? Any soft rotting roots? Is the main stem soft or firm? Is it outside or indoors? What is your climate like, geographically and seasonal? Without some photos or detailed description, it's very difficult to determine what the initial problem was or if some other action such as root pruning was necessary.

A current photo of the browning areas, the container and the soil mix will help very much to diagnose. Photos in general would help.

I've personally found aloes to be very forgiving of poorly drained soil as long as they get plenty of light, aren't over watered or kept constantly wet. This isn't speaking of ideal conditions, of course, but ideal isn't always possible.

Since you just repotted, I would move it to a sheltered location out of afternoon sun (if outdoors) and hold back on any watering for a week to allow the roots to recover.

Good luck with your aloe. You will have much more luck with guidance here and anywhere else if you provide more information. Apologies if that's a bit overwhelming :)

I tried to update the post but I think it just deleted the three paragraphs of stuff I worked on. Now then... I can't take any pictures, as I don't have a camera available, but the soil I used is 'Schultz Orchid Mix'. It says it has 'Western Fir Bark, Horticultural Charcoal, and porous volcanic rocks' in it, so at the very least there won't be a lot of standing water.

When I examined the Aloe while I was repotting, the plant looked fine, so I think the mentioned rot was just on that one leaf - but I'm gonna watch it for a while just in case.
(The browning part was on the base of a single leaf and didn't seem to be spreading, but again, I'll keep watch)

The roots themselves, I couldn't tell. They looked very compacted into a ball of sorts, covered in soil. The one root strand I DID manage to see looked fine enough, but again, I'll have to just wait and see.

Edit:
The stalk is the lightest brownish-white color where the leaf was, but it's more white than brown. I'm hoping I caught it early.
And no, I haven't watered it yet. I think I read somewhere that it's good to let the plant sit for a while when you re-pot it. Something to do with roots, or getting used to the new pot.

As the plant grows, oldest leaves will gradually dry up. But yes, you should be watching for possible rot - any succulent kept in moist soil that is too wet may start rotting.

Since you say you are new to Aloes, are you sure the leaf had rot? Maybe the plant was reabsorbing the nutrients in the leaf. The bottom leaves will go first. Maybe this isn't what yours looked like.

I don't blame you at all for repotting and removing the leaf. And you investigated the problem, too. Kudos! I just don't want you to panic and repot when it is part of the normal process.
