I have a similar question - in late July (Ohio) when it is obviously not dormant I want to dig up my Desmond Tutu rose bush and bring it to my parents in humid, hot Houston. Is flying with it as a bareroot a possibility since it's growing season? It was a bareroot plant 2 years ago with bigger roots so keeping it potted in soil is not an option. It's alive and healthy but still relatively small compared to some of my others. I'd be flying with it so it will be faster than Fed Ex next day, would be same day (but adding time on both ends to dig up then plant, just like in shipping). I wonder if it will survive in my carryon suitcase without soil , since ice packs are not allowed due to the liquids rule. Maybe I should do a checkin bag for a larger bag and add ice packs. Maybe I can water liberally for a few days before, soak and wrap damp brown paper packing material around the roots? Cuttings are not in consideration since the rose is likely still under patent, and even if it wasn't, there is no time. I could dig it up tomorrow as my sister's passing thru from Ohio to Texas... but I'd have to go dig it up and I don't think her husband and her want to drive with a rose in addition to their kids, or care for it in Dallas till they can go to Houston. I guess no one can really say whether it will survive or not, wonder if I should take a chance or if it's too much of a hassle. Or Desmond can be the sacrificial lamb to see if this works.

Hi lizalily :) You know, I LOVE apricot/peach roses, but wasn't so sure that these would look good or not. They remind me of my mom, in the sense that apricots were her favorite fruit lol. It's something else to consider for sure. I was going to add in some lime colors with the perennials for sure - hostas will be added and I'm going to be very careful about the leaf colors I choose. I think I have to lay off anymore hydrangeas at this point; I already have 6 of them, plus the tree and any more empty space needs to be for the roses and lower growing cutting flowers (I might be able to squeeze on more in somewhere, but would prefer not to).

Michael, I suspect that since you found it in "the woods" that it isn't getting enough sun to form flower buds. It's quite possible for a rose to survive in less than ideal situations, it's another thing for it to prosper. Now that you've uncovered the poor thing, try to prune it up to let in light. Also, it seems to have become a creeping monster, so there's a good chance you can find either suckers or rooted stems that you could move out into a sunnier position. If nothing happens this year, next Spring you should see blooms either on the original or any babies that you moved (and pampered). If it's a once bloomer next Spring could be the earliest you see blooms. In the mean time you might try taking pix of the leaves and posting them here. It may be a recognizable wild rose, or possibly someone could at least identify the general type of rose. John

Very difficult to id with only a few photos. Could be Golden Showers, but seems to have too many petals and be a bit too bright yellow in my own experience. Golden Showers also shatters very quickly, a day or two in my experience, so if the blooms last longer, then perhaps you can rule GS out. But then we will all be just guessing and roses vary depending on climate, location, and many other things. My personal first impression is that it resembles 'Lichtkönigin Lucia' a wonderful Kordes rose from the mid 60's that was widely grown. But there are many other possibilities. Trying to identify a mystery rose is not an exact, or simple process. Good luck, but an exact ID is unlikely. Cheers, Rick
