Hi Kuan, no worries, it's there now, earlier on I was getting a message saying it had been removed from photobucket!! If it were mine, I too would be tempted to prune it back quite a lot. I could have drawn some lines using our other computer but it's 'down' at the moment so I can't. If I say I would cut the right hand branch where the white trim line around the edge of your table is and the remaining branches at a similar length, does that make sense? I would also try raising the caudex up out of the pot a bit as I often find there is a far more interesting caudex going on below soil level. These are just my opinions and what I would do myself as I prefer shorter, stumpier adeniums....the choice is yours of course! As Marie says, the cuttings can root after they have calloused over for a day or so, but it's something I have never tried as I've never cut one back yet...they've never been big enough yet..lol! What length cutting is best to try and root I have no idea, hopefully someone will help you out on that one. Good luck, I hope it flowers for you. Gill from the UK.

Hi Sophia, I can give little input on repetition. I don't pay attention to that here in non-winter land. Poor Abraham Darby got suckers from his Dr. Huey root stock after 4 yrs. and I thought they were the octopus canes I'd read about. By the time I figured it out they had taken over. I battle them every year (difficult access). Poor Abe is now only 3 feet high but in my climate grows easily to 6 feet +. Dr Huey is stealing nutrients and water. Large petal packed wafting uber fragrant blooms. Some blackspot in a non-spray garden. Evelyn is in the path of the wind. She has a lovely spring flush (no winds) and sporadic bloom thereafter (regular winds). No blackspot this year on either as yet. Disease wise I'd say they're equal here (very little). Evelyn's blooms are probably the same diameter as Abe's but not as deep. I keep her under 5 feet with pruning. A 7 ft. arching cane appeared after 6 or 8 years. Colors - Abe is usually a pink fully infused with peach-yellow-mango. Full bodied oomphy color. Lasts no more than 3 days in a bouquet. In Sept. mine changes to a warm medium pink, not as peachy as spring but never bluey-pink. A boring everyday color. In Nov. it is back to a prettier peachy pink. Evelyn, ah Evelyn. The pink dawn touched by sunlight? Not pink, not peach, but a sophisticated blend on gossamer satin petals. I think it is the delicate iridescence that captivates. If I could only have one rose bloom a year it would be her. So you see I am terribly prejudiced and pay little attention to the bush.

So nice you have warm weather still in the 90's for your adenium. I agree it may be wise to start bringing it in at night but keep watering and keep putting it back out in the sun while your temps are warm enough. That is probably the easiest. Alternatively if you have a heating pad that is safe to set outside, you could put it beneath your plant and set a timer on it so it's only on after dark until morning. You could even drop a mini greenhouse over the plant just for the evenings like a cold frame but leave it open during the day. As you are in zone 10 it may even be sufficient protection through the entire winter and would also provide shelter from rain if you get a cooler, cloudy, wet spell. Where to cut? Always cut where the leaf nodes (this is where future leaves will emerge) are "stacked" (see (1) below). Never cut where leaf nodes are more spread out/far from each other (see (2) below). This distance between two (leaf) nodes is called the internode. (Btw, I have no clue, why I made those arrows below ;-) ). But why do we like short/small internodes in the first place (= "stacked" leaf nodes)? Because 1) this is another way of saying, that the plant has a most desired compact growth form, ... and 2) pruning at such a sweet-spot (again, where the leaf nodes are "stacked") can result in several new branches emerging from that particular sweet-spot hiding the cut even from early on. On the other hand, if you prune at (2), you could end up with only a single branch emerging near the cut (= not very pleasing to the eye. Actually, you didn't achieve anything or very little).
