Thanks Laura. I have had this DR for 3 years and never knew it was a DR until recently. LOL. But I fell in love with Adeniums, Brugs, and Plumeria so I have started some seeds. My plumeria seedlings are coming along but the Adenium seeds are yet to sprout. Guess I just need to be patient.

I am sure you seedlings will do fine. Post some pics for us. :)

Can you tell me more on trimming the plant please? Should I trim it right above the caudex? After trimming it, can I root the cuttings? Sorry for all the questions. I am really new to Adeniums. I'm trying to read up on it as much as possible.

Kuan, you can root the cuttings, but it doesn't have a nice looking caudex as grow from seed. As the years pass, you can't tell. Your DR is very nice looking.

Hi Kuan, no worries, it's there now, earlier on I was getting a message saying it had been removed from photobucket!!
If it were mine, I too would be tempted to prune it back quite a lot. I could have drawn some lines using our other computer but it's 'down' at the moment so I can't. If I say I would cut the right hand branch where the white trim line around the edge of your table is and the remaining branches at a similar length, does that make sense? I would also try raising the caudex up out of the pot a bit as I often find there is a far more interesting caudex going on below soil level.
These are just my opinions and what I would do myself as I prefer shorter, stumpier adeniums....the choice is yours of course!
As Marie says, the cuttings can root after they have calloused over for a day or so, but it's something I have never tried as I've never cut one back yet...they've never been big enough yet..lol! What length cutting is best to try and root I have no idea, hopefully someone will help you out on that one.

Marie, I will try to root it. I bet it will takes years and the caudex may not even look as nice but I can't seem to let the cuttings go especially this is my one and only DR. Also, thanks for emailing me back on how to start my seeds.

Gill, your explanation is great and I understand where to cut. I will do it this weekend. I hesitated to trim it back for fear it will not come back and die since this is my one and only. :) But I have got to start some where and chubby plant looks nicer to me too. Thanks for the info.

Oooer Kuan, I hope it goes well both for you and the plant, realise its a big step to take, so fingers crossed all will be well....I'm sure it will!
You may find sap oozes from the cuts, it can be an irritant so watch you dont get it in your eyes, wear gloves maybe as some people are allergic to it. It will dry after a few hours but can run down and go brown...just rub it gently with a childs paintbrush or cotton bud soaked in plain water, it will 'foam up' and then you can wash/wipe it off carefully with the brush/bud.
Can't tell if your pot is deep or shallow from the angle its taken, they look really nice when chubby and in shallow bonsai type pots. I'm sure you will know to have one with drainage holes in the bottom. Your compost mix looks like its gritty/free draining so thats good.
