Miele enters the robot vacuum cleaner market
Comments (15)I've had a Neato XV-14 for over 2 years ago and love it. According to reviews when I bought it, it has much stronger suction than Roomba, so is better for carpet which I still have a lot of (until I remodel). It's not perfect, but the fact that I don't have to do any of the work and yet have CLEAN FLOORS ALL THE TIME makes up for a lot for me! Especially since I have a dog and a little boy who brings the whole sandbox home a couple times a day. The Neato got my carpet much cleaner than my Miele Flamenco canister with Turbo (non-powered brushroll), partly because Neato has stronger suction but maybe more because Neato moves over the floor more slowly than any human pushes a vacuum cleaner. After running Neato every day for a week or so, my carpet was an entirely different color. Neato senses stairs just fine. It uses magnetic strips as barriers, and these work great. It tried to climb the tubular frames of my baby swing and jumpers, so I had to move those for it to clean efficiently. The firmware upgrade may have improved its handling of those items. It's just about my favorite thing I ever bought....See MoreMiele W3033 versus Miele w4842
Comments (47)4842 and 9802 were delivered today. 1st impressions: First - we loved our Asko's and hated to see them go. Install was simple stuff - the crew was in and out in about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. They assembled the washer / dryer on the stands while in the truck. Getting the washer downstairs was a chore for two big guys. Installer said the washer (on stand) weighs nearly 350. The pair is a beast on the stands. Coming from our little Asko's - this pair is huge. Fit and finish is excellent. The stands are very nice - soft close doors, a place to set a basket on - well made (ought to be for the $$). The washer is almost silent until it spins up - and then it is not nearly as loud as the 1200rpm Asko it replaced. It does shake at full spin - did not walk or anything, but a clear shake. We did not consider the dryer to be noisy - but it clearly moves moves more air than any dryer we have had before. We did not install the solid aluminum vent pipe as recommended by sales person and folks on this forum. I bought it and installer encouraged us to try the flex aluminum vent pipe he brought with him. We agreed to try it and it was fine - returned the solid vent material today. The wife is very pleased - thought her first load of whites came out cleaner than the Asko - which is saying something. I talked her into these - would have been trouble if they did not perform at least as well as what she had. Quick wash (on cold) was about 30 minutes - Normal wash about an hour. More later after we get some experience....See MoreMajor disappointment in Miele washer / dryer
Comments (12)Ten years ago, we bit the bullet and bought a stacked Miele washer / dryer combination (W1930/T1520) thinking this would be purchase that would last a lifetime (or, more realistically, about 20 years). We're now having to replace the entire stack after just 10 years -- here's why. The dryer has suffered a major failure with its motor. After $200-300 of service charges, they finally figured that out and the part alone will be $700. Since the dryer has other problems over the years, the tech is recommending that we just get a complete new dryer.Did you negotiate with Miele to offset the expense of a new motor since the service tech has already charged you $300 worth of service charges. Was the service tech an actual Miele service tech? BUT Miele no longer makes any dryer that can stack on top of the washer that we have. I.E. we have to replace BOTH the washer and dryer in order to fix the dryer.Have you tried shopping around at the various websites as I came up with one. Also, call stores as it they may have one that is substantially discounted yet new. Calls to Miele customer service for a creative solution have been unhelpful -- with everyone just saying, "Yep, it looks like you'll need to get a whole new stack."I agree with you on this because the customer service reps simply answer the phones and I find them severely lacking, if not horrid, in their knowledge of their own products here in the USA. My best experience has been with a Miele service tech as he was quite facile in all aspects of the product and gave straight comprehensive answers since he actually worked on the products and was constantly receiving field information through Miele regarding service bulletins. (BTW -- neither unit has been trouble free all this time, either. We washer alone had 4 or 5 service calls on it for various things -- inlet valves, motor brushes, etc.)Can you please further elaborate on where your Mieles are situated in your residence; type of service they are used for (residential, renters, vacation home); water hardness? Thanks....See MoreMiele Combi Steam Oven 2014
Comments (5)>In a nutshell, it seems to me that the attacks by miele and SQ owners do more to keep their reputation high than the manufacturers appear to be doing to create great products You can criticize those manufacturers all you want, because I agree that they aren't perfect, but can you name any other manufacturer that is doing things as good or better than they are? Another way to look at it is... why do these manufacturers have such a fan base, and the others don't? >For all new appliances the truth is it's dumb luck, you get something decent or a lemon, miele and SQ are sadly not exceptions. She seems to have a lemon, a very expensive lemon Agreed 100% >My experience thus far is that the repair rate for high end is about the same as midrange but that the original purchase cost and cost to repair are exponentially different Ah, but does your experience include Miele and SQ products? That is what I mainly find odd about your comments is that you haven't claimed to own either machine. If you had a bad experience with one or both of them, your posts would make so much more sense. Yes, you can find negative reviews for those brands just like any other, but by taking a negative impression from the reviews you are ignoring all the people who love theirs, of which there seems to be a much higher proportion than other brands. I call it like it is. Believe me, I have been one of the most vocal criticizers of high end brands on this forum from a service standpoint. The parts prices are outrageous, a lot of them have proprietary parts distribution (Miele included), and they restrict access to technical info so that only a select few can work on them. All of that means if it breaks out of warranty it will be super expensive to repair out of warranty compared to a Whirlpool or similar. There is no question about it, these products aren't for everyone. And I agree with you that a lot of "high end" products are high end in looks only and don't actually work better or last longer than basic appliances. But I don't lump Miele and SQ into that category. if something is just better made or works better than the competition, I'm going to say so....See Moremamapinky0
