OK, chose the peninsula pendants, still need sink pendant help!
Comments (5)I am in similar situation; have decided to put three individual pendants over long counter containing sink in middle and two more over a peninsula parallel to it 6.5 feet away. I didn't consider anything but matching ones, very small and simple, with a goal of having bold pattern on the window treatments that they will be hanging in front of. I found a few photos in books that showed multiple pendants and generally they used same model for the whole set but some varied in color of the globe of glass or used a diff. shape or scale of globe. Except when a pendant was more like a chandelier or whatever over a table; then it didn't have to have a relationship to the sink or island. Is there a reason as to why you don't want your pendants to match? Otherwise, standard practice seems to be to use a variant of one style on the other, such as a double-globe pendant on island and single globe matching one in another position. Same manufacturer and same finish, but sometimes with some kind of variation. I've been fighting the in-ceiling lights trend for task lighting, which I find to dissipate light instead of focusing it and which I cannot use in my ceiling-attic situation. Comments (6)I personally would not go with a fan light. I think they've passed their heyday unless your climate really calls for one. I've found that for the living area table or floor lamps are really best for reading and overhead lighting always seems rather harsh. If you feel you need one for the front entry I'd choose one that is harmonious with the style of the dining room and kitchen if you can see those areas, but probably mounted to the ceiling. In our living room we have two lights near the fireplace which are mounted in the ceiling in addition to the table lamps and that's worked out well since they're unobtrusive and fit any decor. Hope this helps. Ingrid...See MorePlease help! Need countertop to go with brick tile!
Comments (37)I just saw a slab of brushed or leathered Black Blue Pearl...absolutely stunning and “petable.” I am not a real fan of that stone polished but leathered or brushed it looked so different that I could not tell what the granite was. It had a beautiful muted and subtle look. My point is that if you want granite and are okay with a darker stone, looking at some of the more solid/speckled stones in a leathered or brushed finish might soften them and fit right in with that floor. They will look like a softened, solid color but will not really be one color. Plus you will have a counter that everyone “pets.”...See MoreKitchen Lighting Advice
Comments (2)Thanks for the input. I figured the peninsula was long enough for 3 pendants, but my concern is how close the one will be to the upper cabinet just to the left of the cooktop; this is what pushed me to think just 2 pendants may be better. I've read that it is ideal to have the recessed lighting 24" from the wall above countertops for best lighting at the workspace. Following this rule leaves what looks to be a large void between the pendant lights and the recessed lighting along the fridge wall. The "large void" in reality is less than 8' so I may be concerned over nothing. The picture below is what I have for my initial design, and may better illustrate what I am talking about. Circles = 6" Recessed Light Pentagon = Pendant Light I should also note that I have 8' high ceilings....See More- 8 years ago
