Does this inspiration photo look good for a traditional new home?

[Traditional Kitchen design[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-kitchen-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_709~s_2107) by Minneapolis General Contractor Hendel Homes, Rick & Amy Hendel I also love the look of this kitchen. It's a little bit country but I'm building in the rural midwest, so it's perfect for me. I think the soft yellow paint really brightens up the space. Comments (14)Thanks, Fori, that one is almost invisible, isn't it? Do you have a photo of yours installed? I think I looked for it on the Finished kitchens blog based on something you wrote on another thread, but I wasn't able to find it. Pentimento-- that is the very image I was trying to find again! I saw it, but could not remember where to save my life! Thanks so much. That does look like it could fit in a 20th century house in the woods! I have had a hard time finding anything similar because I had no idea what to call it. I like that one a lot, so I did look at the rest of the room. "Rustic Modern," they call it-- I like that term, too. That one is in between 2 windows, though, so I'd have to come up with a creative solution to fit it in between 2 cabs. Our kitchen will be fairly small, so although I can give up the space above the hood, I'll have to have uppers on both sides. Sochi, thanks for the images (and I am a huge admirer of your kitchen, by the way.) it is fun to see people coming up with some lateral solutions. I might be more innovative if I thought I could do without uppers! (And it is a sweet spot we have-- we've been camping on it and cooking outdoors for 20 years!) Tracyerin, thanks for the link. I like the way that one works with the surrounding cabinetry. I really appreciate all of you taking the time to send these. It may be a year before these are built, but I will let you know how it turns out!...See MoreHood venting and sink frustration - does this sound right?
Comments (17)You guys are fabulous - I got so stuck into the thinking that it had to be in the wall, I missed these other venting options. I just realized there is a very good chance that the wall ends up being one that goes up right though the master bedroom closet wall on the second story. That's a possibility! But then it's scary cutting the roof to ensure no leaks! Our new cabinets will be staggered with most of it going to the ceiling. It could potentially be worked around behind moulding - it would just have to go through the hutch somehow and the mullion doors may complicate it, but I am leaning toward custom since their prices are coming in exactly the same as semi-custom, and that could then be built in somehow - any idea how to hide the ducting through the hutch? Here is the plan from the bid that comes the closest to what I am envisioning:...See MoreNew here...looking for input with kitchen...island hood
Comments (29)Corner cooktops take up much more space than those on a straight run. And, only one person at a time can be there. If you envision kids helping out at some point, they will not be able to do that with a corner cooktop. It truly isn't a problem to locate the cooktop on the wall oven wall. And moving the wall oven across the aisle doesn't make it any further from the cooktop than it is now. I also really think that you and the kids would enjoy the ability to sit at a peninsula. If you put the fridge directly across from it, you'll find that the food travels from the fridge to the peninsula and with the water right there to your right, the peninsula will become the primary prep center. It will really only be a step to turn and stir the stock or to toss the just chopped ingredients into the stewpot. People become accustomed to making adaptions to overcome the limitations of poor design. I see this all the time. Behaviors, even poor ergonomic actions or poor safety habits become ingrained and rote. And then they fear the change. All they know is the rote actions that they are accustomed to. Don't fear the change! You're getting an exciting opportunity to make not just your kitchen better, but you LIVES better. Yes, good design can make that big of a difference in your family behavior patterns. And you've gotten good advice and a good layout. The only thing additional that I'd suggest is making the U a bit shorter in distance so you have more room for seating on the other side, and putting the DW between the sink and range. That's usually a poor location, but with the peninsula, that will be the prep location and you can now have someone chopping veggies there while someone else on the other side of the sink loads the DW. And someone else stirring risotto. And someone else doing homework on the peninsula's seating side. And someone else raiding the fridge. ANd somone else nuking some pizza rolls. All at the same time. Without getting in each other's way....See Morejpmom
