Wall and window treatment colors for dining room
I've got a soft pink and grey-toned green in the foyer, with a green marble floor. The pink extends into the living room. The dining room is gray, but I want to make a change in the dining room, so that the living and dining feel like "one" yet can carry themselves on their own. And I'd like to incorporate green into the dining room...and hints of green in the pink living room. I've got some pink "Cora" slipper chairs coming for the living room. I was thinking to paint the dining room green, like the coffered ceiling in the pink foyer, OR a color to match the dining chairs and then add pops of green in curtains and other decor to carry through the green marble and green ceilings from the foyer. BUT, I'm thinking similar tall sheer window treatments in both living and dining room would be best (getting rid of the gold bars in living room)...so that has me back to putting the green on the walls with a neutral and sheer window treatment. I do not want to cover the windows entirely. Any advice on how to go about this? THANKS!

Comments (6)It is fashionable right now to hang curtains higher but it's harder to find the longer panels at many stores. My Mom always had her curtains made, though she could have done them herself, so that when they were open they barely covered the woodwork. That way you have maximum light exposure and view. Again not necessary but nice. Since you have your's hung from clip rings I'd recommend extending the rods to their fullest potential, without weakening their strength, and hanging a few of the clip rings outside the bracket where it is attached now. Again I don't think it's necessary to raise them. Unless you have someone that can repair wall board without it showing where the brackets were before, I'd not move them. They look very nice where they are in my opinion. Hollygarden's idea of sewing your own is a great idea if you can do so for less than it would cost to buy them or can't find what you want ready made. I used to make all our window treatments and we've moved allot so I've made more than I can remember. Even made some for my Mom's kitchen twice. Fabric stores aren't the only place to loook for fabric. I've used sheets and even table clothes as fabric for curtains. It's longer and wider than you can get in just about everything but muslin by the yard and you can find them at so many more places. You could also incorporate these panels if you found the same type of fabric in a solid to match one of their colors. I'm in the process of finding panels for our ladies parlor and will be heading to JC Penneys tomorrow afternoon to see in person something I found online that I've been drooling over the past two days. I think those drapes would look nice, but if you're planning on getting a rug, I'd probably get that first so they didn't clash. Comments (11)Thanks for your input ladies. I didn't realize anyone had replied to my thread. I'm still looking for window treatments. Dawnp, I really like the paisley you linked. I do think the lighter background is the key. Laurie, I also like the way those two fabrics are combined. I had thought about doing the pattern on top, especially since my table blocks the view of the lower part of the drapes. I'm just so confused. I requested a sample of fabric from Country Curtains. The stripe is beautiful and ties in nicely with my cottagey theme. My only problem with these is that I really want the window treatments from the dining room and kitchen to play off of each other in fabric and color since they are now open to one another. This is a non-issue in the living room because my window treatments are wooden blinds with khaki 'ribbon.' I also purchased a pattern for shades. I thought I might do view A (the black shade) in the kitchen windows and view D (the green balloon shade) in the dining room. I feel pretty confident about the choice for the kitchen windows (once I settle on a fabric)but I'm not sure if the balloon shade is the right look for my dining room. I originally considered it because my table does block the view of the lower portion of the drapes. You really only see that part if you walk on or sit at that side of the table. Most people walk on the other side of the room. I wish we were done working on the built ins and my DR was put back together so I could take another picture and give you a better idea of what I am talking about. I also thought about simple sheers but I don't want white or cream. I saw someone's living room in the kitchen forum with a wall color close to mine that had sheers in the same color family. It looked nice in her window but she had other textiles in the room to add warmth and interest which I don't. So what do you think about the Laura stripe and the pattern I bought? Comments (17)I'm with Marcolo for all the reasons stated and, because at night with 2 full walls of draperies closed, it will look warm and feel warm, and all that fabric will add softness not only to the look, but the sound of the room as well, making it feel much more cozy. 8 years agoYeah, that last pic you shared is very close...and a great one for inspiration! The grey in DR walls isn't in the LR rug, but the chair color is! Tried to get the diff between the chair and DR wall...so then you can see the LR rug has the chair color.

I do like the blingy chandeliers. I'm gonna see if I can come up with something that works ok with the one I've got, and then prob replace that last. I also feel like it might make the room feel a bit more formal...and it is a more formal room...but not sure how far down the spectrum I want to go. Decisions, decisions.
