It seems as if the Chris Madden drapes would make your space feel very cave-like and dark, unless that's the look you're going for. I would much prefer the blinds you linked.

Definitely not going to dark and cavelike. I'm actually hoping for seaside cottage in landlocked Tennessee.

I'm open to suggestions if anyone has a better idea.

Apparently I am terrible at picking window treatments. I ditched the dark drapes for some from overstock. I got them in champagne and was satisfied with them until I saw them in morning light. The rough edge inside the outside trimmed edge shows through in the morning light. So now I'm back to square one.

I'm still really loving that piece of paisley fabric but I'm just not sure what kind of treatments I could/would make with them. I considered just hemming the fabric and using clips to hang it from the rod. But . . . I'm still thinking about the coordinating striped fabric and wondering if I could have something really special made with the two fabrics. Anybody have any ideas or pictures of window treatments made from two fabrics?

I think a paisley with a light background and the wall color in it would be beautiful.

I did a quick search and posted a link to a fabric below.

A way you can combine 2 fabrics on panels is by making the bottom section (the distance from the moulding to the floor) a contrasting fabric. Or, you can add a band of contrasting fabric along the inside edge.

Thanks for your input ladies. I didn't realize anyone had replied to my thread. I'm still looking for window treatments. Dawnp, I really like the paisley you linked. I do think the lighter background is the key. Laurie, I also like the way those two fabrics are combined. I had thought about doing the pattern on top, especially since my table blocks the view of the lower part of the drapes. I'm just so confused.

I requested a sample of fabric from Country Curtains. The stripe is beautiful and ties in nicely with my cottagey theme. My only problem with these is that I really want the window treatments from the dining room and kitchen to play off of each other in fabric and color since they are now open to one another. This is a non-issue in the living room because my window treatments are wooden blinds with khaki 'ribbon.'

I also purchased a pattern for shades. I thought I might do view A (the black shade) in the kitchen windows and view D (the green balloon shade) in the dining room. I feel pretty confident about the choice for the kitchen windows (once I settle on a fabric)but I'm not sure if the balloon shade is the right look for my dining room. I originally considered it because my table does block the view of the lower portion of the drapes. You really only see that part if you walk on or sit at that side of the table. Most people walk on the other side of the room. I wish we were done working on the built ins and my DR was put back together so I could take another picture and give you a better idea of what I am talking about.

I also thought about simple sheers but I don't want white or cream. I saw someone's living room in the kitchen forum with a wall color close to mine that had sheers in the same color family. It looked nice in her window but she had other textiles in the room to add warmth and interest which I don't.

So what do you think about the Laura stripe and the pattern I bought? I'm not married to the paisley but I do like it. I'm open to other suggestions.

I like the last link from calico corners. I'd personally do a flat shade in the paisley fabric you like and then do a stripe or solid stationary panel drape on either side. Or just do the shade as mentioned and instead of a stationary drape do a box pleat valance in the stripe or solid.

The box pleat valance with the shade would be more casual but still give the window's a dressed up feel.

I actually like the look on page 22-23 of the Calico Corner catalog, except with a box pleat shade instead of the one shown. I could use the paisley dawnp found for the cornice but would I use stripe or solid for the shade???

Oy! I just ordered everything I thought I could use for the dining room from Penney's. Obviously, some of it will go back. I ordered the Lisette sheers in aqua mist and linen. I wanted sand but it was out of stock.

Then I ordered a pair of the Cindy Crawford Prelude lined solids in abyss green and sand. Sand is back ordered. That must be a popular color. I don't know if any of it will work, but I thought it was worth a shot.

I also ordered some navy roman shades for my son's room to replace the sheers that I hate in his room. I hope they fit.

I'm still pretty bumfuzzled about what to do in the dining room. I will post pictures for your review when they come in.
