Replacing wood trim with an updated combed trim

Hey everyone, So we have slowly been plugging along on our 1959 home. Its our first home and I have really enjoyed taking to tasks and updating as we go along. With the majority of the inside done, I am looking to attack our exterior with a fresh coat of paint. Our home is primarily stucco and I would like to replace the exterior trim of the windows with something a little more up-to-date. The product I would like to use is a combed 2 inch pvc board to replace this very old and very thin looking window trim. Is there anything I should be overly concerned about? Is it as easy as taking a blade to the caulking and prying the trim out and replacing with new trim? I did this with very little issue when replacing my windows on the back of the house. This photo shows the original windows which have since been replaced with retrofits.

How is the trim glued or sealed to the stucco? The critical thing is to cut that joint free so that if you remove that trim, you don't disturb the stucco at that same time.

Thanks for the response Washington... I've taken a better look at the living room window (2nd picture)... I can't tell just yet how the vertical strips are finished. Theres about 40 years of goop where it connects to the stucco so I am going to have to take a blade and run it down the side. As far as I can tell it is either A) Fastened to the wood frame opening (which is fastened to the rough opening) or B) the vertical strips is part of the wood frame... but that seems almost impossible to believe that in 1959.... they would go to the trouble of installing a "slip fit" wood frame. I'll report back once I have some good light and a ladder to inspect it well enough.

What I would suggest is to do all the wall painting first and then make a decision, you may feel the wood looks just fine with the new paint. I see no problem with painting the foyer and leaving some of the wood showing.

The window trim change would be to Craftsman style. Unless you are doing the work yourself it seems a lot of expense for little difference on upstairs windows. It would, however, be extremely easy to do on your front door as you would only need to change the top board. And you could replace the side lights with solid wood inserts, or you could use textured glass that would obscure the view while still letting light in. While the limestone exterior is very light it has a yellow hue. Simply speaking the easiest way to find colors that work with the warm limestone is to choose a nearby color. That was probably why the trim is green. Since you prefer a modern look, I suggest you keep your siding light and use color only in the trim. Below are two combinations that I like. You can use a taller baseboard without having to change your window trim. They don't need to be the same size. Larger baseboards are more updated, but with a stained finish will also be more noticeable and more expensive.

We would like to remodel the whole house room by room as we enjoy doing most of the work ourselves. Refinishing the wood floors is on my list after my toddler exits the hell on wheels stage. I don't believe the tile is under the kitchen cabinets, I definitely want to change the kitchen layout. The roof, living room windows, and kitchen appliances are damaged and need replaced this year. I also need to replace all the bathroom sinks because they are not kid friendly. I'm considering putting in more substantial baseboards as the current ones seem very cheap compared to the crown. I agree with updating all the lighting and adding updates through furniture and decor for now. Thank you all for the advice! It helps to have outside opinions.
