Samsung front load washer door issue

Samsung front load washing machine. Door won't close. I have to hold it closed to get the lock to engage. Seems like the seal is pushing on the door not allowing the latch to engage. After cycle door lock does not release as there is too much pressure on the lock from the door seal trying to force the door open. Have to push on door to get lock to disengage. Has been like this since new. Past 1 year warranty now, should have called but lost paperwork.

Hi s5racing. I replaced the door latch on my Samsung FL about 3 years after purchase, having the same symptoms as you. Eventually the door won't stay closed at all and the lock won't engage. If you can find your model number, I can help you find the part you need to order online. Install is simple (plenty of YouTube videos available) and if your experience mirrors mine, the replacement locking mechanism will be 2x as good as the original.

It's a pain but is a repair that doesn't require moving the machine and is relatively DIY.

So you're thinking the spring inside the latch just isn't strong enough to hold it closed initially? Why would it not be able to unlock after the wash cycle?

That was not what I meant but you're actually right - Miele would be one of those deep-rinse washers. My grandma has one. One time, I loaded it with a heavy load of sweaters, jeans etc, added Extra Rinse and - to my actual surprise - the water level went several inches up on the door glass like this Miele. What I was originally trying to say is that Europe had washers that would save water beyond commonsense. I had an Electrolux that would leave the center of large loads dry during the normal rinse cycles... Today, manufacturers still produce these frugal machines BUT you can easily get around this by using another cycle or adding some sort of 'more water' option. This is my Duet with German programming on a 203F Bulky Items cycle with a load of towels doing the cool-down (fast-forward to 5:00) cool down. Be that as it may, more water changes (rinse, drain, spin, repeat) are actually better than just one rinse with lots of water. If you need superior rinsing, look for a machine that provides a good number of rinses. Alex

If youÃ¢ÂÂre considering the Samsung models also check out the Sears Kenmore Elite models which are built for them by Samsung. We got the 263 649 308 4.0 cu ft model (Canadian #) in the Blue Silver color. It is based on the Samsung 218/219 model with extra features (a diamond drum, 1300rpm withVRT, small items Ã¢ÂÂcatch basketÃ¢ÂÂ and a front drain hose). It also has side handles . . . really nice to help put in place when the fit is tight . . . these are very heavy machines (maybe all FL are????). It has a very good energy rating . . . in the top third of machines I believe and very simple to use. We are very happy with the performance. A much better job than the Whirlpool top loader it replaced. I would recommend using about 60% of the recommended amount of HE powder and simply white vinegar for the rinse. Speaking of how much I like the front loader - one of the things I really like about it is that I can wash rugs in it - not the flimsy ones but the ones with stiff backing. They say professional rug cleaning but some of the ones I have are so inexpensive it's not worth the price of professional cleaning. So I tried washing one in the FL once - figured if it fell apart I'd throw it away. It turned out great. So today I washed two rugs I've had in my kitchen for a long time. They're brown oriental type rugs so they hide dirt but they were grungy so I thought I'd wash them. A really weird thing happened. These rugs were (I thought) exactly the same. At least they looked exactly the same before I washed them. One came out beautifully - looks like new. The other one looks entirely different - the colors and pattern are kind of muddy and muted - kind of yucky looking. It almost seems like one was synthetic and one might have been wool - the one that doesn't look very good. So I put the good looking one back in the kitchen and the yucky looking one is in my laundry room. It doesn't look so bad by itself but looks terrible next to the good one. Anyway, FL works great for washing the rugs but you take your chances on whether the rugs are really washable or not. By the way, my normal cycle is 45 mins but there are cycles as short as 30 mins. Drying is fast since the washer spins things so dry.

I didn't think I had mold either until I pulled back the rubber gasket and took a look. Then what I found there and inside the detergent dispenser was beyond disgusting. I have always left the door open all the way since it was brand new. Now I also leave the detergent dispenser open and I still get mold. It's impossible to get the mold out of the gasket so I will need to get a new one for about $300. It's difficult to get your arm in the dispenser socket to clean as well. This washer/dryer I was told to be one of the best front loaders by 4 different mom and pop appliance stores (Electrolux) and I 've had 5 service calls in 5 years and my husband and I are empty nesters. My neighbor who got the Speed Queen at the same time as I got my FL has had NO service calls and she has 3 kids. I will not be replacing the gasket and instead will get a new Speed Queen top load washer and dryer. I don't need all this hassle. Photos attached.

My first latch didn't seem to be lined up properly and it was always difficult to close. I can't say that it ever felt like the gasket was pressing against the door -- at least not more than necessary to create a seal -- so maybe we aren't talking about the same thing. It could also be that your seal is not seated properly. If you can, take some pictures and upload to here. Someone with a lot more know-how than I will probably give a more accurate diagnosis.

My door latch on my 4 yr old Samsung FL had to be replaced within 6 months of purchase. Glad it was still under warranty and glad I purchased extended warranty because they just came out last week to replace dead heater on dryer.

The door on my Samsung front loading washer is locked and the electronic control pad is malfunctioning. I tried calling for service but nobody has responded. How can I fix it myself?
