Favorite Valspar or Sherwin Williams colors...

What are the "in" colors from Valspar and SW?

Aside from what's in, what are you favorite colors from their lines?

Going to try to talk to my parents about repainting their main level now that they quit smoking. Probably need some serious primer too???

Don't have any color families in mind...just want some inspiration...

It's currently a creme color that leans yellow...so it almost looks pale yellow. So something besides yellow I guess. LOL!!!!

SW Kilm Beige, SW Amazing Gray, SW Favorite Tan are neutral colors that are lovely. I like anything along the strip of those colors.

I'm repainting a condo in town and the living room, dining room, hallway and foyer are destined to be SW 6680 Friendly Yellow, using Cashmere Low Lustre.

Before you repaint, consider a thorough cleaning with Dirtex (follow label directions) and primer (BIN) prior to painting. If smoking has tainted the walls for several years, you may want to get a professional evaluation prior to startup. Any nicotine you cover with paint will bleed through in a very short time, and will also peel away within 6 months.

we are thinking of using SW Dover White (flat) on all the walls in our small open concept house to unify them; I like the slightly creamy undertones, however, cannot decide on a color for the trim. I am thinking maybe SW Alabaster in semi gloss. Anyone have any experience with the best trim to use with SW Dover White as the wall color? House does not get a lot of natural light.

I bought the current issue of Beautiful Kitchens today and saw a lovely vintage look kitchen with yellow cabinets. I thought, hmmm, that might be a nice change from the creamy white I was considering. So I looked up the color and was please to see Sea Oats and Dupioni on the ceiling, Sherwin Williams. Great, I thought, I'll get my SW fandeck out and see the color IRL. Except, it wasn't there. A quick google for Sea Oats paint came up with Martha @ SW. So, I started remembering how great those colors were and I'm totally kicking myself for purging all my paint cards a few years ago. DH is forever on my case because I can't resist them and they're everywhere. I'm headed to my Mom's this Thanksgiving. I'm hoping she has some still lying around. I inherited my paint chip addiction from her. Can't wait! Keep the colors coming. I'd love to see pictures if you've got them.

I can say I might trump you on living in a dreary area! I'd buy some 4 poster boards from Michael's or where ever you have locally cut them in half so you have 8 pieces to sample 2 colors. Leave a 2" border of white all the way around and paint the rest with any of the colors you choose or any I have mentioned. I'd go for City Loft or Aesthetic White. Shoji is another that will lean slightly gray, but I didn't sample it as I'm familiar with it in other spaces and for my space and furnishings in the eat in sunroom I knew it would not work. It really is a lot of work, but to get it right.... You have some interesting colors and the only way to know is to try even though it's a pain. I'm not done, but here is a photo of Aesthetic white in my sunroom. TALK ABOUT DREARY and you can see high it leans a bit slight gray. I cropped the photo as this is the only spot I have 2 coats to have you best see. The room has three taller windows left and right with a paned single door to the backyard and on the back wall 4 large paned windows so there is a lot of light in this space. As you move in to the kitchen it's not as bright, but the light from the sunroom toward the kitchen makes the paint look a pinch lighter more like the bottom of the photo. I hope it helps you and as I mentioned paint can change from room to room. I found it a nice compromise I was very torn between Egret and City Loft and Aesthetic White all having slight nuances that differ, yet barely. I had used Aesthetic in an office I did recently and loved it so I tried in in my home and well.... I do love it and will use it more in the future.

I love sw white sesame but trying to find out if there is a little pink I it. I am looking for a shade this color with a little pink so it blends with my sandy beige floor that has a little pink. Don’t want the pink in the floor to brighten more and clash. If I go with a beige paint without a pink undertone the floor shows more pink.

My favorite is SW Nomadic Desert. It does not have undertones and looks good with white woodwork or natural woodwork. Almost all furniture colors look great with it. It goes very well with the Kilim Beige.

My next favorite is SW Believable Buff.

One of my favorite "neutrals" from SW is Ramie. It leans toward a very soft beige with green undertones. It seems to go well with both white and dark wood trim. Prep will be everything for this project.

SW has it all over Valspar. I have painted my whole house, our rental house and several apartments and I would always pay a bit more and get the better paint, SW. Truer color, better coverage, easier to wash walls, if necessary, after they have been painted a while and need cleaning. No comparison.

I agree about SW over Valspar...but those are the two brands my dad buys so that's why I asked... :) They didn't smoke inside, but when they smoked on the front porch it leaked in through the cracks in the door/windows, etc.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!!

Now what about killer non-neutrals!?

SW has it all over Valspar.

That's not true. Both companies offer good, better, best paint products that are equal in value. For example, Signature will outperform SuperPaint. It usually comes down to prep and application and expectations. I've never been disappointed by either product.

BTW, any color you choose can be formulated by any paint manufacturer. Brand name doesn't own the color.
