Tell about your Lammerts Roses
I've only had four of these roses, and while these varieties currently aren't as popular as newer ones, a couple of them are among my favorites.
Queen Elizabeth Grandiflora: At one time QE was definitely the best rose I had. I had three bushes and they were the most vigorous growers I ever had and put out more basal breaks than I've ever seen on any of my roses. While the individual blooms aren't spectacular, they're pretty and put on a lovely display. I would love to duplicate these results once again.
Bewitched Hybrid Tea: I have three of these, I think my oldest one is about worn out, but so far it's hanging in there. To me Bewitched puts out what I consider a classic looking pink hybrid tea bloom, what I would think of if I didn't grow roses. It has a nice fragrance, but wish it was stronger at times. Bewitched has brought me many years of beautiful blooms.
Chrysler Imperial Hybrid Tea: I would like to say this one was one of my favorites, because I love the beautiful fragrant blooms, but mine have struggled.
Years ago I had Mirandy, I remember a beautiful dark red with an intoxicating fragrance.
Not sure why I never grew Charlotte Armstrong.

Tell about your Carruth Roses
Comments (40)I admire Tom Carruth very much. He started out in a business that did not please his father, worked hard to find a way to go to college, gradually finding rosarians to learn from, becoming mentored by them when they saw his talent and passion, he never gave up and produced some of the world's most beautiful roses. I'm so glad he didn't just produce California zone roses. Most will grow where winters get cold. I have Outta The Blue and Wild Blue Yonder, which are similar; ruffly, romantic Love Song; Grand Dame with strong fragrance; Pink Home Run which is constantly covered in blooms and Watercolors Home Run. I wish I had chosen Julia Child instead of the Austin Golden Celebration, but maybe GC will improve with time. I was shocked with the bright orange buds of Cinco de Mayo since I don't have orange in my garden, but they open into the most gorgeous blooms in a range of subtle colors. Twilight Zone would be a good Cinco de Mayo companion. I miss going to The Huntington Rose Gardens where Mr. Carruth is curator since I moved to inland northeast WA. We've discussed this a lot on the forum, and I don't know what the latest news is, but it would seem that Tantau could make a tidy sum in the US/Canada rose market. Comments (58)I live on the Southern California coast, zone 10a. The climate is very moderate here. It never freezes, but seldom gets above 90 degrees F. I have a number of David Austin roses. All of them are beautiful when in bloom, but my worst performers have been Harlow Carr (gets more disease than the others), Heathcliff (very slow to start growing and blooming again after first bloom) and Crown Princess Margareta (so-so first bloom and repeat bloom). My best performers have been Olivia Rose Austin (immaculately healthy, very good repeat bloom), Tamora (repeats like a floribunda, intense myrrh fragrance), Young Lycidas (very healthy, good repeat, intense old rose fragrance), The Albrighton Rambler (grows along my 10 foot balcony with great vigor and extremely healthy foliage, has well-formed old fashioned rosette flowers, repeats well [unusual for a rambler]) and Teasing Georgia (huge plant that produces hundreds of big, full-petaled flowers each year and repeats well). All-in-all, David Austin roses are by far my favorites. Comments (42)I have a couple that are under rated. One is Medallion. I got my original in a body bag from KMart years ago. Of course at that time, I did not know that roses needed 6 to 8 hours of sunlight and that they should be on the East side getting morning sun. So what did I do, I planted him at my office on the west side of the building. I built a little retaining wall right up next to the building over part of the black asphalt parking and filled it with dirt.... yes a bad idea, but he doesn't seem to know it. He doesn't get sun til about 2 and when he gets it, he has to deal with the heat and reflection of afternoon sun off a white building. He is a TROOPER and puts out beautiful large blooms. Doesn't get black spot. Though I guess, I just learned he will never get to be a queen because he will never have a high center, but he will always have my heart for those huge buds and flowers..... my 2nd under rated would go to Regatta, because I have friends who shovel pruned theirs, but mine is putting out bloom after bloom..... The only thing about her is I wish I would have put her in a different spot, because she gets BIG and she has thorns.... lots of thorns, and she is right by a doorway....See More

8 years agoI no longer grow Golden Showers--a victim of RRD last year--but did for many, many years. One thing I found out is that it was a water-hog. Not re-blooming? Give it a good watering and it will be in the next few days. (But the blooms don't last long. Sure is pretty when it is in full bloom however. Rather than having mine climb something, I grew it as a "free-form" rambler. Miss it.
