Does anyone else DETEST roses that quill? :0)
Comments (22)Yep, that's it. Some roses are even MORE quilled though...like flat, pointy ribbons on a bow, open in the center, exposing their stamens with no shame! Thanks for the photos though. Beautiful roses on the link! Hosenemesis-I don't know why your mom would've called them "cabbage roses" either...cabbage roses are one of my favorite forms...the old fashioned types are so pretty! I don't grow the true type, but do love the Austins and Romanticas that grow in this shape. :0) Phyl...See MoreCan anyone share info on dainty bess , gruss a Aachen , bishop d?
Comments (10)Pink Gruss an Aachen is a color sport of the original Gruss an Aachen -- and it has long been sold in error as 'Irene Watts.' It is NOT Irene Watts, and it is probable that that China Rose is lost. It's lovely in its own right. Bishop Darlington is -- as others have said -- ginormous. It is a beautiful rose which, in my Coastal SoCal conditions, is completely disease-free (NO spray). It displays quite a color range, because it's very changeable. I love it, and wouldn't want to be without it. I read a clever comment to the effect that the Bishop, a modest fellow, uses those incurving petaloids to hide his "modesty." But it SHOULD be noted that the real Bishop Darlington -- an Episcopal Bishop, was a poet -- and a great promoter of women's right to vote....See More"Interstellar" movie
Comments (12)Thanks for that clip, Alisande. It gave me chills. "Our" Anne was dressed in a white nightgown, which I seem to remember was what Anne was actually dressed in on the day of her execution. But Henry looked very similar. The music throughout much of the opera was very beautiful and strangely happy for the grim content of the play. I really enjoyed it. Chisue, you must go! You live so close. We go to the Friday matinee and sit in a box, so pretty far away but the view is great. We take the train down and have lunch at the French market in the station before the show. I have to admit I didn't care for "Porgy and Bess" even though it got rave reviews also. It's the only one I haven't liked....See MoreRoses at the San Diego County Fair 6/21/17
Comments (19)I'm 99% sure the rose I had never heard of before was called "Cornet". The name tag listed it as a hybrid perpetual. I'm having trouble reading it, even "embiggened," (so cute, Virginia) on the laptop. I found it to be a solid medium/soft pink, although helpmefind's description of Cornet say's pink with a red shading. Is anyone familiar enough with Cornet to confirm or deny? Lisa...See Morebpath
