Need HELP with backsplash please!
Comments (4)I wouldn't throw the idea of marble backsplash away just yet. Below are some pics of off white cabinets with whiter shades of marble to give you a visual. I find it hard to piece things together on my own and visuals helped me. I would also recomend buying some marble, glue it to a board, grout it and set it against the wall. I almost did not choose marble as a backsplash until a gal at the tile shop told me to take home a sample board (already grouted). I love different shades of white in a room. I hope this helps! Here is a pic of my sample boards with black counters. Below is a link to the same topic as yours! Comments (14)Dianalo, I had originally planned to do a full height BS, with one row of the field tile (so that the sideways outlets are covered by the field tile and I am not having my listello interrupted with plugs and covers), then the listello, then two rows of field tile. If I get subways, though, I will do two rows of field tile before the listello. I had also considered tiling all the way around the window, but I think not now. Steph, I do like the look of your sister's field tile. I was stuck on subways, probably because I see them so often in photos here. The 6x6 tiles (my guess) that she has do look fine, though, and would mean less work for me to install. As for sheen, the listello is both polished and honed. I had not noticed until the saleslady pointed it out to me yesterday, but the center diamond, the tiles on either side of the diamond, and the long thin tiles that outline it are all polished. The outer tiles to the left and right are honed. Since they abut the next tile, there will be(going left to right) the two honed, a polished tile with cut-out for the diamond, the polished diamond, and the right polished tile with a cut-out for the diamond, and two honed again. So having either honed (matte) or polished (shiny) field tiles will work. Last night I did more searching, and I found this glass subway tile that looks like it may work. I is, of course, very shiny. The color looks promising, too. The previous day, I sent for these two glass tiles. They are shown beveled, but I believe I could get them in the smooth style. And here, again, is my listello. Comments (18)If your choice were only between to 2 you originally posted, I'd choose the one on the right--the cream one. From the photos it looks like it works very well with your quartzite. The gray one is "off" just enough not to look pleasing. However, as many have noted, either one is more difficult to clean than a smooth surface. What sort of cook are you--very neat or more devil-may-care? If you are very neat and do not splash much when you cook, then you may get away with the split-faced marble, but if you are a more exuberant cook, you may find it a challenge to clean. The mother of pearl is very formal and quite busy, so it's going to compete with the counter tops as well. Personally, I would use a smooth crackle tile in a tan/beige tone to work with your quartzite. Simple is always good....See MoreHelp With Backsplash Please!
Comments (221)Thanks NewEnglandgal! Turned out so lovely and I love all of the wall colors. My issue will be cabinets will go all the way to ceilings and the crown will die into it from great room so I may be stuck with that trim color having to stay with the flow. Hmmm all things to consider. Thanks so much! Enjoy and hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday this Season in your new home! Blessings!...See MoreUser
