Devices and Printers won't load

My Dell mini 10 net book runs Win 7 starter I use Microsoft Security Essentials for virus protection. Lately the devices and printers won't load. The green bar just goes across and nothing happens. I googled the issue and have tried the safe boot and then regular start, I also tried the Bluetooth start automatically etc. No luck

I did set up a second Admin Profile and devices and printers load on that profile

I have a new printer and would like to set it up but can't because of this issue.

Is there another fix?

What about a system restore to a time before the issue occurred ?

I forgot to post that I tried a restore but that didn't help either. I think it may of been a while since it worked and the restores available were only a few months ago

If you use a Windows PC, you should be able to access a print queue or jobs list starting with Devices and Printers from the Start menu or in Control Panel. When you open that, double click on the icon that represents your printer and you should see that particular print job listed where you can select and then delete it.

I forgot to mention that there are no warning beeps or unfamiliar noises but I'm pretty sure I can smell something which resembles an extra hot old iron that hasn't been used for ages. Pydies05, I am confused about your post because that seems to be your only post on this thread. Are you the OP under a different user-name? I recently had the won't-spin-or-drain problem on my 8-year-old Kenmore washer. There was a hot-metal smell which made me certain the motor had died. However, I looked online and found that cleaning the lid latch could solve the problem. So I dabbed at the lid latch with a Kleenex -- and also the hole the latch went into -- and then re-set the knob, and everything was fine!

Maybe it's a problem with the website that keeps you from printing it. Or you may need to install new printer drivers (available at hp.com). I just use the "Snipping Tool" to highlight what I want. That way, I can save the selection to my computer or paste it in Word to print it. The Snipping Tool on Vista is great, but if you have XP, you can download a free snipping tool. I only discovered this wonderful tool recently, and I think it's one of the coolest features yet!

Zone systems (zone boards specifically) are designed electrically to have proper sized transformer. Again with the VA rating? Yes, this isn't voodoo magic. If the electrical loads (24v) are not properly sized to the transformer you will have erratic system behavior. For that reason, I would NEVER choose the Nest for those kinds of applications. The odds are low that it will work and / or for very long. Heavy system loads. These loads change thru out the season. If you want something to work, shouldn't it just work any time rather than sometimes? It's one thing to get a system to work in 80 degree weather, it's quite another to keep it working under a 95-100 degree heat wave. This comment is primarily directed at a HVAC zone system. (in case others without a zone system read this thread) I haven't had any issues with Ecobee, but I don't see this kind of T-stat all that often because Ecobee is primarily designed for use in commercial type applications. Are you saying if you set up another user account (Admin) the devices work ?

Then for some reason your user account is corrupted and you will need to create another user account as outlined here;

That's all I can think of trying to think what may have caused that corruption in the first place.

You could try running system file checker and see if that does anything.

Please remember,

Reboot the computer after system file checker has ran and run it again

Sometimes SFC has to be run at least 3x for problems to be fixed as well as using an elevated command prompt.

Ok so I ran the SFC 3 times and no luck. I'm going to do the upgrade to win 10 will this fix the issue or should I tranfer my profiles first. Thanks for all your help

I'd fix the profile first. Do you have the "Get windows 10" Icon on the netbook? I was not sure if Windows 7 Starter was eligible for the up grade.

Since "Restore" didn't work, you maybe will need to do a "Recovery". Does this PC have a recovery sector on the hard drive?

Doing a recovery will wipe off all files on your hard drive (data files and programs alike) and will reset your PC to how it was when it left the factory. Be sure to make copies of any data or media files you want to keep beforehand. No matter what, I recommend going forward that you replace Microsoft Security Essentials with a better-rated protection program. There are many to choose from, some free and others moderately priced.

Ok I will check on the recovery sector. I did come across a padlock on my user profile.
