Devices and Printers won't load

My Dell mini 10 net book runs Win 7 starter I use Microsoft Security Essentials for virus protection. Lately the devices and printers won't load. The green bar just goes across and nothing happens. I googled the issue and have tried the safe boot and then regular start, I also tried the Bluetooth start automatically etc. No luck

I did set up a second Admin Profile and devices and printers load on that profile

I have a new printer and would like to set it up but can't because of this issue.

Is there another fix?

What about a system restore to a time before the issue occurred ?

I forgot to post that I tried a restore but that didn't help either. I think it may of been a while since it worked and the restores available were only a few months ago

If you use a Windows PC, you should be able to access a print queue or jobs list starting with Devices and Printers from the Start menu or in Control Panel. When you open that, double click on the icon that represents your printer and you should see that particular print job listed where you can select and then delete it.

I can certainly sympathize with your situation...I have been without a printer for many months now because the ink cartridges are so expensive. I have a Canon Multipass 550 which has been a lifesaver in the past...being able to fax, copy and print...then when you do breakdown to buy one...install it and it still says empty cartridge, you really want to scream. But get this...the cartridge isn't the problem...it's the print head...to the tune of $50 or so and this is the third time I have replaced it and lord only knows how many cartridges were full before I wised up! Now get this....those print heads can be washed in your kitchen sink, dried on the counter and reinstalled...I sure am glad I saved the other two, i'll try that next time! But, now...I can't get the printer to print everything on the page....it prints one or two lines of the document, then skips a good paragraph size area and picks up the print again......any suggestions! and of course, it doesn't help that the manual is online and no hard copy is provided...I'm ready to do the old uninstall/reinstall thing and see if that helps! Technology sucks....here today, obsolete before noon the next day! and it wasn't a cheapee either...about $250- $300 smack a roos 2-3 years ago! Even with the cheapees....you spend a fortune on ink, that's were they make the money i guess! So what do I have to lose if the washing dosen't work......blank pages! Problem finally resolved. After being on the phone with 2 different techs who couldn't help and blamed it on the printer, I called the printer company today and they said call the internet provider. I called them and they said nothing was wrong with that. I called the Geek Squad and they offered to come at a high price. So I called Linksys back AGAIN. This new person had me to change some settings in the router online, changed channels and tweaked a couple of other things, took about 3 minutes, tops and now it's printing. I did try to download updates like the post above but my computer wouldn't allow the download, something about not being able to read it??? Anyway, it works now. WHEW!! I was just about to pack it back up and return it.

Are you saying if you set up another user account (Admin) the devices work ?

Then for some reason your user account is corrupted and you will need to create another user account as outlined here;

That's all I can think of trying to think what may have caused that corruption in the first place.

You could try running system file checker and see if that does anything.

Please remember,

Reboot the computer after system file checker has ran and run it again

Sometimes SFC has to be run at least 3x for problems to be fixed as well as using an elevated command prompt.

Ok so I ran the SFC 3 times and no luck. I'm going to do the upgrade to win 10 will this fix the issue or should I tranfer my profiles first. Thanks for all your help

I'd fix the profile first. Do you have the "Get windows 10" Icon on the netbook? I was not sure if Windows 7 Starter was eligible for the up grade.

Since "Restore" didn't work, you maybe will need to do a "Recovery". Does this PC have a recovery sector on the hard drive?

Doing a recovery will wipe off all files on your hard drive (data files and programs alike) and will reset your PC to how it was when it left the factory. Be sure to make copies of any data or media files you want to keep beforehand. No matter what, I recommend going forward that you replace Microsoft Security Essentials with a better-rated protection program. There are many to choose from, some free and others moderately priced.

Ok I will check on the recovery sector. I did come across a padlock on my user profile.
