and what are they eating that you grow?

We had waxwings come in and strip the Yaupon Holly in about a day. Still have those black berries on those trees that come up everywhere. I can't ever remember the name of that tree. They aren't spending that much time at the feeders and don't seem interested in the seeds that are still on the plants.

The bird food we use in our feeders is Wild Delight Nut & Berry. We use different suet cakes, but mostly peanut and berry. I've never seen the the waxwings at the feeders and the warblers I think only go to the suet cakes, not the regular feeders. Last week I got shots of over 10 kinds of birds. Here is a few more shots.

actually i'm looking across the field and seeing/hearing sandhill cranes since i love to listen to them, i'm not focused on the other birds right now, i did see blue birds, and hear crows this evening though

I think I got a shot of a Ruby Crowned Kinglet this morning. Can anyone confirm or ID if not.

This is only my second year to have Orioles and I've never seen a nest. John - Do you know what kind of trees your neighbor has that they like? Last year, the Orioles stayed around for a little while and then disappeared so they must've nested in someone else's yard - not mine. This year they showed up about a week earlier than last year. I've seen as many as 4 males at a time in our dogwood tree where I've been feeding them. The females aren't around as much and I've only seen two. Here's a picture of my "Orange Tree" The darker one in the middle may be an Orchard Oriole. It was rainy. Here's a close-up of a Baltimore Oriole at the feeder.

Oh, Ruth, I used to get a pair of these cuties every winter, but haven't seen them in a couple of years now. I cannot confirm from this photo as i would have to see the red dot on top of the male's head. When I first spotted them a number of years ago, I just thought they were goldfinch..............same size with a lot of the same markings, and then I noticed the red dot.

Carrie, I think this is smaller than the goldfinch and I went by the vertical white on the eyes and the one white marking on the wing. And the beak seems different. I did not see the red dot on top of head.

Yes, Ruth, they ARE smaller than a goldfinch. I was just saying that before I knew what they were, I would just glance and see the markings similar to the goldfinch. I really enjoyed having them at my feeders in the past. Enjoy them while you can.

I'm going to watch for this one more.

Here's another one that I first thought was goldfinch, but now I'm not sure. Check out the horizontal white/light color around the eyes. Also seems to have a beak more like the first picture.

Not an expert but maybe the last bird you mentioned (with white around eye) is an orange-crowned warbler? This birder site says to look for the split eye ring.
Also wonder if the black berries are one of the evergreen ligustrums. Last April the waxwings flocked in to disapper the berries on our neighbors' ligustrums.

Annie, I think your right. It looks like an orange crowned or maybe Tennessee warbler.

I think the tree is a wax leaf ligustrum. I don't like them because they are so invasive, but birds love them and they seem to bring in the waxwings.

I got these shots last January.

Ruth, we have sparrows, sparrows,

and more sparrows. Oh, and a couple of red birds and a woodpecker. Love the red birds. A couple of years back, we had Cedar Waxwings. We have not seen them since. Love your pics of the waxwings and goldfinches. Sure wish we knew what to grow to attract them to our yard again. I've never seen a real goldfinch. What do you feed them? We have all these birdfeeders and mostly just sparrows. We go down to Rockport and Port A just to see the birds but we would love to see more of a variety in our back yard.

Ruth, I think you are correct that your first pic is a Ruby Crowned Kinglet. The next picture is of a Pine Warbler--notice the double wing bars. The other warblers you thought of don't have wing bars. I see the Pine Warblers at my feeders at this time of year.

How about Carolina Cherry for the prolific trees with black berries?

I also have all of the above, Ruth, and am finally seeing some little Junkos. Love those little birds. Right now I am having trouble with the black birds keeping the others away from my feeders.

dh won't let me put out feeders because he thinks it will only invite birds we don't want to take up residence in our yard so i don't see as many as i would like, but we do live in a wildlife preserve, lots of fields, trees and water so we have a wide variety around just not hanging out at my "feeder" drat

Zippity, "bad" birds don't hang around that long, but my cardinals, titmice, chickadees, wrens and many others are here for the long haul. I do so enjoy watching them.

those "bad though not bad" birds have been here for over a year and a half we do have bluebirds, crows, owls, meadowlarks, etc and don't want to encourage the sparrow or the blackbirds (grackles) we have 36 live oak trees on our property and they encourage large flocks of birds so for the time being, i'm feederless.....
