Central Illinois has abundant sunshine (for now), with cold temps. Still...above average temps for this time of year.

My new weather station, a gift, tells me it is 18º right now, and I see a gorgeous rosy sunrise from my windows! We are supposed to be getting some quite cold weather in a few days.

Temperatures below normal here at the bellybutton of America (Kansas) - currently 22°F with a high expected to be 41°F (nice to get above freezing for a change). Windy today, which will be ahead of several weather fronts from the west which will include rain, sleet, snow through Sunday. Guess I'll go get the few groceries I need today while it's still dry outside, instead of tomorrow when the winter mix settles. But the sun will come out eventually - it always does ;-).

Warmer temperatures, 50's, because of lots of rain storms. They say we are going to get 2-4 inches today (already at 2") and at least 2 or more inches tomorrow. We have already lost power once for a short time. Our neighborhood always loses power during heavy rain. Also lots of car accidents on the highways. Lot of trees down and minor mud slides. I hate going out in this but have a doctor's appt today and mamogram tomorrow.

Here in southern California, it is raining, and we are happy. Had a little rain during Saturday night. We are hoping the rain we are expecting through Friday will be a steady rain that will soak in well rather than downpours that run off to the ocean before it can soak into the soil. Our nights have been colder than I ever remember here the last 3 or 4 weeks. We have been wearing our coats during dinner when we go out to eat. It has taken us several times to learn, but apparently the restaurants in this area do not have furnaces. They have ventilation and air conditioning, but no ability to heat the dining rooms. We have sworn off dining at our favorite Thai place till spring.

58 degrees F. and raining here in SoCal. Perfect day for cocoa, a fire in the fireplace and a good book.

Wonderful, wet, beautiful RAIN!!! I'm so happy for the trees, shrubs, rose bushes, etc. Not raining hard yet, but it's real rain.

After a HOT December in Pa (hottest on record by 6 degrees) and the northeast, last night's low was 8 with minus zero wind chill. Still no snow but currently it's in the low 20's. Far cry from days ago when were in shorts and flip flops. Ski resorts are now getting ready to open.

Pouring. Heavy. Cold and wet. They kept saying it was going to be tropical, but then I heard it was coming from the North. It's only moderately cold. VERY wet. Landslides are sure to follow...

At 4 a.m. I woke up remembering that I had not packed our checkbooks. I went to my computer at the kitchen breakfast bar and asked our house sitter to send them. It was 72F with clear skies and lots of stars. I could hear a gentle surf from our living room.

The Hawaii News Now weatherman says it should be about 80F today with NE (Trade) winds. Still high surf advisories along northern shores -- 20 - 30 foot surf off northern Oahu ; pretty calm here in South Maui. Quite clear atop Haleakala this morning. It is to our east and delays our sunrise about 30 minutes.

(The TV station logo is all run together: HAWAIINEWSNOW. My Midwestern brain persists in processing this as "Hawaii New Snow". That is only true occasionally atop Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea on Big Island.)

COLD! I was really enjoying the warmer (record breaking here (middle TN) too) weather and now it's in the low 20s. Brr. I fully dread standing and waiting for the train tomorrow. If I do. I may drive like I did today. I can warm up the car and it's pretty good. Just not on gas.

Man, you brought back two buried memories Chisue! I was trying to remember where I lived that had snow flurries and we got to stop school and go play in it. I initially thought Oahu, but nope, it was Monterey, California. An oddity, nonetheless. It "snows" there once every other decade. The other is when all the men were really enjoying the surf on Oahu, and I tried to get in. Nope. Terrified, I thought, those must be 30 feet tall! Probably were.

ETA: I found this current thread and the snow is so memorable, the poster (I was in Ms. Williams class at Manzanita, not this one, so it was citywide!) wrote this:

Still bucketing here. The water is couple inches deep on the patio. Sometimes when there's this much water after dry, it kind of seals itself and doesn't sink in very fast. I'm guessing the garage is flooded already, and we have a whole week of rain predicted.

Woke up this AM in upstate NY at 1 degree. High of 17. Now back to single digits for the night.

Chisue, thanks for the good wishes. We shouldn't have slides just here where I live, but there are already floods and mud floes, and it's only the first day. This is "normal" for California, but people forget when there are so many years between wet years.

I saw a show about Hawai'i recently that talked about how people from Arizona and Texas were moving to Hawai'i to be cool. :)

It's rainy and I'm grateful, but I sure hate this weather. Had too much of it growing up!

Yes, we were there because of his service. Same as Monterey. Happy memories indeed! Military life is very different, but we're a close knit community and still stay in touch even after 40 years. Good folks.

Although a little colder than normal for this time of year, the ski hills are thrilled after the warm winter of last year and the resultant lousy ski season, the weather is our normal winter mixed bag. Some light dusting of snow so lots on the ski hills, some rain which translates into snow for the ski hills, some sun which translates into bluebird ski days, and some cloud which brings rain and snow.

I don't ski anymore but my husband and kids do and so do American (which because of our lousy dollar are here) and European (which has no snow this year) tourists.

It says it is 61. I just came in for a break. It's overcast and just cool enough for a long sleeve t-shirt. I'm trimming up my flowers and cleaning out the flower beds today.

I'm in the NorthEast, Long Island to be specific. We had an unusually warm and long fall. It was 72 on Christmas Eve (Dec 24) , breaking the prior record of 63 degrees for the day. . It's been seasonably cold this week, ten or twelve the last 2 mornings, today it was 35 when I got up at 7 am. Been dry, no snow at all yet. TV weatherman blames El Nino.
