I buried money last year, but forgot to dig it up... At another house. Oops! We'll remember this year.

Done! A couple of unexpected expendature$ since Oct. It will take more than a year to recover.

Dig it up this new year day. For me it's now after midnight so I could go dig it up but I will do it in the morning. Remember to dig yours up too. Uncovering your wealth and good fortune!

We may never get to sleep with the massive amount of fireworks going off everywhere omg it's loud. I drank my little bit of Asti I am ready to go to sleep.

I buried a crisp new dollar in a zip-loc bag. I wanted to put it in the south-facing veggie garden. It was walled off with a bank of snow from when Wes snow-blowed the driveway a couple of times. The snow covering the 8x22 area was so pristine and lovely I didn't want to tramp through it.

I went to the front garden. That snow there has been trampled by wild turkeys, song birds from the feeders, marauding critters, and who knows what. The ground was so hard I couldn't get the spading fork in it.

I finally went to the area where we had dumped a lot of compost and ground leaves. That was loose enough I could get the fork in and managed to cover the baggie. I also pulled snow up over it; patted it down, and left a big handprint over the area. Then, just to be sure I could find it tomorrow I stabbed the fork into the nearby snow to mark the spot.

Bring on the unexpected money - and slow down the unexpected expenses!

Got my REC dividend today. $42.10. They apply it to my bill. It's been such a warm winter until lately that I am still under budget. But after these past couple of weeks I probably shot that cushion.

$318 refund from mortgage company, $200 from a wellness checkup, and $1 had forgotten I loaned a student in December. Oh, and I'm getting $400 for a four-day seminar I attended last week. It would be awesome if I could do this well every month this year! (And it couldn't be more timely after last year.)

I bought a 25 cent paperback at a thrift shop and found a $20 bill inside it. My prosperity has begun! LOL

I like to walk around my neighborhood. i am in the habit of looking at the ground when i walk, so i won't trip. I frequently find loose cash. Dimes, pennies, twice I've found $20 bills. i never heard of burying money on New Years Eve. I do remember an old superstition about burying a statue of the Virgin Mary.Not sure what it does, but it's supposed to be beneficial.

I think I am behind already. A few days after the first of the year, my husband lost his wallet containing about $120. However, he found a scratch off ticket a few days ago....and gave it to me. I haven't scratched it off yet....may have to go do that and see if I win a dollar. (It is that stupid bingo game scratch off....lots of scratching and matching to do.)

LOL Marilyn, That's the fun of scratching the Bingo, and Tetra, etc......scratching and matching. You can do what one lady I saw in the store do.........she'd buy a ticket, and just scratch the bar code. She was buying ticket after ticket, only scratching the bar code. I'd call that desperate.

That just seems so wrong to me, burying a statue of a saint upside down? I've heard of this for years but would never try it.

I have done it with every house I have sold and each one sold in less than a week. Believe me in a bad market with that kind of success I will do it every time. It's not disrespectful if you read about the origin it's very interesting and was originally done by nuns. Read about it you may change your mind. There's prayer that goes with it and it is an honoring and protecting the property.

Here's a brief summary.

St. Teresa of Avila started the tradition in the mid 1500s. St. Teresa of Avila is a very famous saint and Christian mystic. She was born in Spain and experienced her holy calling very early in her life. She founded an order of Carmelite nuns called the Discalced Carmelites which stressed living in a very simple and austere way. The Discalced Carmelite order became very popular and St. Teresa wanted to build a second convent so that she could start a new chapter of the order but she was having a very difficult time finding a piece of land that was right for the convent.

After praying for guidance about the situation St. Teresa had all the Discalced Carmelite nuns pray with her to Saint Joseph for help and also told them to bury small medals of Saint Joseph that had been blessed around the property. They did, and within a very short time St. Teresa had found the perfect piece of land for the new convent. People began to copy St. Teresa and started to bury medals and small statues of Saint Joseph on their property when they wanted to find a new home and eventually the tradition changed to the tradition as it’s known today where people that are trying to sell their homes bury a Saint Joseph statue in the ground of the property they are trying to sell in order to get an offer on the property.

Our local Catholic store sells statues of St. Joseph specifically for this use. The box he comes in has instructions on what to do. I have done it a couple of times for friends and it works wonders. St. Joseph was a carpenter and is the patron saint of builders and a protector of our homes. I hadn't heard this story of St. Teresa, but I'm glad to learn of it.

It's almost time to bury the money! It really paid off this year! We got several money surprises this year, boy did they come in handy with rebuilding our household!

I really look forward to this. We had a good year last year with our lottery scratch tickets, (over $1,000). We treat ourselves to $3 tickets, and splurge on $5 when we have larger winnings ($20 and up).

Pulled out the tin we keep the dollars in just the other day!

We got about $18,000 from the asbestosis fund. (My husband has asbestosis). His pulmonary doctor told him he had it and to go see about it. The asbestosis lawyers said he had the best case they had seen in two years.....good for them....bad for him.

The extra money is nice....good health would have been better.

I take the money I bury, the next time I go to the feed store, and put it in the container for a horse rescue. That way it doesn't accidentally get forgotten and spent.

I haven't given the money we've buried away this year. I carry it with me, in case I see somewhere I can donate it. I gave the newspaper carrier his Christmas money last nite in an envelope. I realized this morning I could have given him the buried coins.

I have the baggie with my New Years money out and ready to go near the front door. I am spending the weekend and New Years with my daughter. I will bury the money at home before I go and share the custom with them at their house.

Unfortunately all of my saved money was lost in the flood. No idea where it ended up. I hate that I was going to donate it to a local charity that is very helpful in the community. Part was going to a pet rescue. I will start over again.

I am still carrying around the dollar I buried last year. Was going to drop it in a Salvation Army bucket this year, but never saw one. I guess I will do what you do and save them up. I am sorry you lost your money in the flood. You have to hope someone who needed it found it.

Hubby's best friend invited me out to breakfast so I buried 2 Toonies while waiting for him!!!! I have my penny on the table to put on the windowsill before going to bed. That should account for some good luck, we haven't used pennies in Canada for several years.

All I have to do is remember Rabbit Rabbit, and I have all my bases covered for the new year!!

So glad I stopped in. I totally forgot today. Am running out now to do it!

I read something here about a penny in the window and now I can't find the thread. I have buried my money in a potted plant and sort of leaned a penny against the window.

I just got done burying some money and put pennies on 3 window sills. I hope it doesn't matter which way the pennies are facing....face up or face down. Anyone know? No matter the outcome, both of these are fun to do.

I have to go out in the rain and bury the money. I did it last year and it worked! Never heard of the pennies. My family always eats fish as the first food in the new year, for luck. Happy New Year, everyone.

Oh this is fun. We always did this when I was growing up and now I do it with my husband. Today we got an unexpected $50!
