Amish Dining and Bedroom Furniture

I'm wanting to buy Amish furniture but am reluctant to buy without some recommendations from people who have ordered from them before. Would really appreciate reviews from people who have purchased from any of the following:

Amish Tables

Dutchcrafters

Hardwood Creations

Amish Outlet Store

Amish Furniture Factory

Online Amish Furniture

Amish Fine Furnishings

I would be reluctant to order also. I'm about 40 miles outside the largest Amish community. Most Amish do not have websites, and most do not have telephones, although some do. If you could make a trip to Amish land, I'd suggest you do. I think you may find you will have to arrange for shipment of items or pickup the items. Many do not have delivery. We bought some fantastic furniture for the deck, and a really nice set of mattresses at really good prices. We did have to arrange our own delivery. My brother bought some really nice custom made to his order bedroom furniture, at an unbelievable price. He too had to arrange his own delivery.

Since I have no idea where you are located, it may or may not be a great idea to plan a trip or vacation to Amish land. Here's a link to Holmes County business directory. Some do and some don't have places to browse. I think the big advertisers for Amish made are just the middlemen. If possible, it's better to go right to the source.

Most of those stores are not brick and mortar stores...they have catalogs and never see your furniture...It's drop shipped to you. They often low ball other real stores and often do not follow through if there's a problem. Be careful with them! There are lots of stores all over that sell Amish made furniture that you can actual touch and feel. Google Amish made furniture and your closest city. I'd be shocked if you didn't find something.

I think your furniture placement will be all right, ncamy. I suggest a few things: 1. get slightly smaller club chairs than the current "overstuffed" size. (I've always wondered who that furniture is for, as you can only actually sit in the space provided and the arms and back don't add to one's comfort!) 2. Get chairs that swivel, so you can move them to and fro according to the light in the room, and 3. put one ottoman between the two chairs. You can face each other and use the single ottoman and still watch the screen, or you can put a tray on the ottoman and use it as a side table for the two chairs.

I'm not sure how well this will turn up. It's obviously not drawn to scale. The total heated sq ft is about 1600sq ft. Bedroom one and two are very similar in size....probably 10X12 I think. Maybe 11x12. Bedroom one is already the guest room, so I think we would keep it that way. The only window in that room is on the wall that is the front of the house and the window is right smack in the middle. I hope this helps illustrate what I was saying about the living room/dining room. Not a lot of wall space for a desk.

I know this sounds odd, but I would remove the final pointy ends from the posts on the bed, as on your first inspiration photo. To me it looks very odd. I would definitely do simple curtain panels reaching to the floor and also a rug to give some softness to this room with so much wood. Perhaps very light blue walls with a green and cream bedspread and cream curtains.

If you aren't too far from Lancaster, PA, you can order the county business directory with ads for many small "mom and pop" furniture shops. Roo is correct that great furniture can be found for amazing prices but you need to really check it out. I have friends there whose neighbors make beautiful pieces and with no middleman it is a huge savings; but it does pay to know someone so you're not getting the "tourist" versions. If you deal directly with an amishman who is actually the maker you are likely to have a good experience.
