Need Advice on Diagonal Backsplash with Diagonal Flooring

I have read all the "rules" which say that one should use the opposite layout on the backsplash of what is on the floor. However...I wonder if there are exceptions to the rules.

We have a galley-ish kitchen - one wall has a wraparound as you enter the kitchen which is a sink base at a 45 degree angle to the cabinets along the wall and then a 15 inch base cabinet at a 45 degree angle to the sink base. I think you get the idea. The rest of the kitchen is two straight lines.

We've seen pictures of galleys with similarly sized diagonal tile on the floor and the backsplash which, yes, looks visually uncomfortable.

But I'm wondering how much the sizes of the tiles affect the rules. We have 20 inch floor tile on the diagonal. We're considering 4 or 6 inch square tile, or possibly a 2 inch mosaic. We prefer the diagonal look for all of these materials. Since our granite is busy (Giallo Portofino) we don't plan to use any accents.

Would appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks very much.
