Comments (37)Good Friday morning all!!! Crunch, crunch, crunch......really enjoying my celery. Thanks! Thanks for the accolades! I hope I didn't jinx myself for posting it here since I have at least 10Lbs to go.... I have 4 5LB bags of sugar on my counter to remind me of how much I have lost.......... Marci, I had no idea this child was so bad that she needed intervention. Wow, sorry you have had to deal with that but I am glad it's you because she might not get the care she needs otherwise. I hope things go well and I hope you get some rest this weekend. Losing sleep over it is not good for you. Are you able to do some yoga to help you unwind in the evening? Just a few minutes of breathing exercises and a few relaxing postures may help you sleep better. Try these breathing exercises: 2-to-1 breathing This breathing pattern relaxes the body by subtly stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, thereby inducing a state of relaxation. As you lie in bed, gently slow down the rate of exhalation until you exhale for twice as long as you inhale. You can coax a longer exhalation by contracting the abdomen slightly. Dont try to fill or empty or empty the lungs completely you are simply changing the rhythm of your breath. In the beginning it may help to count to six on the exhalation and three on the inhalation, or four on the exhalation and two on the inhalation (or any other 2-to 1 ratio you find comfortable). Focus on the smoothness and evenness of your breath, gradually eliminating any jerks and pauses. Counting Breaths Using the effortless 2-to-1 pattern described above, lie in bed and pay close attention to you breath. It should flow smoothly, evenly, and continuously. When the pattern is well established, take: * 8 breaths lying on your back * 16 breaths lying on your right side * 32 breaths lying on your left side Very few people complete this exercise. Sweet dreams! Try the 8 poses in the link below. I do the child's pose each night and it helps immensely. Raeanne, I know I can't do anything about it. Ommmmmmmmm but I want to find a comfortable place with her. I know it will all work out just the way it's supposed to! Beside, alot can happen in 9 months!! Maddie, you should try those breathing exercises and yoga poses too Sister! Night sounds very like very painful reading to me. Let us know how it is. I am glad you are writing the note.......it will help you go through the grieving process. BJ, thanks for your words of support. You sisters are all great! Besh, I know, I AM such a loser! Have you watched the Biggest Loser? IT's a great show. Today I am leaving at noon to go to the ride/drive that I host in my town of Hancock, NH for my driving club. It's going to be a splendid weekend which is great. Unfortunately, due to drought, the foliage is mediocre at best right now. Plus we haven't had a hard frost yet which is an essential ingredient to fall color. Sweet Pea will be styling as her cart is back from repair and actually looks brand new! It's much lighter than the old cart which we've had to use so she will be very happy with the lighter load. If I don't get a chance to check in again............I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend....See MorePet Loss: How Many Times?
Comments (29)Such sad stories my heart goes out to all that have suffered through the pain of losing a precious pet. Last July we lost our beloved Joey while he was getting his teeth cleaned at the vets. No chance to say goodbye until after he was gone. We had still had 3 dogs, a 16 yr old maltipoo and her 2 11yr old "pups" to help us through the loss of Joey. You can imagine our devastation when our little girl Jessie only 11yr was diagnosed with a highly invasive aggressive spleen cancer in Nov. She died in my arms only weeks later. Three weeks later her mother 16yrs had to be euthanized after some strokes. We expected to lose her soon due to her age but it was very hard after the other two losses. I told DH I didn't want any more dogs...we still had one left and that was it for me. Never again I was done. Radar, the one dog left, was very special to me. DH missed having the others so much I relented and we bought a havanese pup. This pup was a little hellion and after 3 wks of tormenting my Radar we went back to the breeders and bought the little devils' sister. So now we had the devil and the angel a calm, sweet little girl and they played so well with each other that Radar wasn't being harassed and ambushed at every turn. This was working well for all. One week after getting the second pup I found a lump in Radar's side. We rushed him to the vet.....he had a very large, inoperable tumour on his liver. All we could do was give him meds to hopefully slow down the tumour. He seemed the same happy boy he always was for about 5 wks but things changed and he went downhill almost overnite. We had him euthanized last week. I'm glad we got the second pup when we did cause I know wouldn't have been able to bring another pet into my home after 4 losses in less than 8 months. These were pets that were at the vets for yearly check ups and shots ate premium dog food and we still lost them too soon. Sorry this is so long....See MoreWorried - cat got out - missing
Comments (6)I checked out the 2 sites kashka mentioned - they have TONS of good advice on how to search for a missing cat. From my own experience, they rarely go far. I can only suggest that you start searching again very close to home and very thoroughly. Worst case, I had a male go missing for well over a week. Signs up, neighbors notified, searches over increasingly wider areas. He turned up IN MY BASEMENT, holed up, injured, skinny, and absolutely silent. My Jack Russell actually found him when I was downstairs doing the laundry. The dog alerted and "pointed" (tail wagging) into an area full of stacked-up boxes. When I moved one box (expecting to find a mouse house), my cat's paw flopped out. He was weak, dehydrated, and turned out to have an abdominal injury, possibly due to a fall from a tree. He survived for many years. We HAD searched around the house, but outside, we never thought to search the basement itself (if he was in the house, surely he would make his presence known, right? Wrong!). Another time I had a newish cat go missing for several nights in very cold weather. Looked everywhere, called, made cat noises, shook the Friskies box endlessly. Nothing. Checked neighbors' yards and outbuildings. Nothing. Finally in desperation I crawled under the deck again (it had been searched by 3 different people already). Found the cat wedged inside a stack of wooden pallets. Not a peep out of her. So I would suggest that you make another beyond-thorough, obsessive VISUAL search starting at the point of exit. Don't expect your guy to respond to your calls or presence. Good luck, it's excruciating when they disappear like this....See MoreGuns and a sad sad death :o) in my area
Comments (19)The NRA has stifled attempts to return to collecting stats about gunshot wounds and deaths, but... There are stats that show the increase in deaths and suicides in states that have relaxed permit laws -- and decreases in them in states that have made it more difficult to obtain a gun. I no longer have the article citing this, but I believe it was Florida that relaxed laws and one of the New England states (Massachusetts?) that strengthened them. Earlier studies showed that just having a gun in the house has overall proven to be less 'protection' and more 'disaster'....See MoreAmazing Aunt Audrey
