Comments (29)I'm just a beginner, but here's the rundown: -1 Chamaedorea Elegans, doing REALLY well although I bought it from IKEA and it didnt look the best, but now its all happy and perky. It's on top of my radiator in the bathroom and I water it every other day, it pops out fronds like its nobody's business, it also doesn't mind the dry air when I'm not showering, what a plus! it gets whatever extra fert i have left over from doing my other plants. This houseplant deserves more recognition because I give it a 5 star rating. -1 Musa Basjoo banana.its in pretty good shape, its down to 1 LEAF now because one of them burnt for a reason i still don't know why?,its putting out another one with more on the way. It puts out 1 leaf per week. I fert it once a month. This one is another great plant of mine. -1 Aechmea Fasciata. This one has had a love-hate relationship with me, but now its produced 2 pups and is powering along nicely. The pink bloom is gone, but the fountain-look and whiteness of the foliage always mesmerizes me. It takes dry air now, didnt use to. Likes tons of sun also. This one goes to the garden with the banana in the summer, because I've tipped it over as far back as I can fathom, its very top heavy so beware! But anyways now here's the list of what I've killed: -2 Sabal Palmetto seedlings. These were never ment for my house, but unknowingly I got them in November and babied them for 5 months before they bid farewell. After that I stuck em outside and let Mother Nature take over. -1 WodXVeitchia seedling. I bought this for $20 on ebay in september and It only survived until December. I think it died due to pink rot on the crownshaft. -1 Guzmania Bromeliad. I bought this at Home Depot in a 16in pot for $15 in October and it died in March. The unusual thing is that one of the old stems where the old plants were(they produced pups before this) had fell off and was missing. The plant also stopped growing and died, so again I let Mother Nature take care of it, well I can always go back to Home Depot and buy another! Comments (8)Here's a picture of how they looked after I just repotted them.. I do have another plant, it's a dracaena marginata that almost died before I recently was finally able to correctly diagnose it had fusarium leaf spot disease (white mold looking stuff in the soil) and leaves were continuously getting these indented scorch marks with yellow rings. I bought a fungicide and repotted that guy with the fungicide spray and half normal potting soil and half cacti mix because I read it didn't like to have wet feet. Anyways I do have freecycle here, I'll keep an eye out for those aquarium supply or pea stone posts. Or just go buy some Perlite :p I just noticed the other healthier succulent's (echeveria) flower blooms are also dying. I'm clearly not doing something right...gave them a bit more water today, my guess is that since they're facing a south window (I don't have an outside area, apartment :/ ) and the sun's been out lately and they got so dry they just cut off energy to the flowers to conserve the leaves. Or I'm completely wrong and they already have root rot a week after I brought them home. Grr......See MoreQuestion for the Jade Pros
Comments (8)Neem oil is made of Chry I can't spell this oil. If is safe to use and will not harm you or orhter plants. Spider mites leave very small fine webs. At the Huntington that is the only thing we are allowed to use. You can water them down to control them with a strong spray of water. I don't even try to get rid of them if they eat mealies and other instects, then they pay their way to live. See what you can find about what they eat. I'm going to try and do so as well. The eat leaves, just looked it up, Wash off with water, especially under the leaves, I used neem oil . yes it is safe if you peel the lemons. Make sure and go to the local ma and pop nursery. Take all of your indoor plants out side, and spray them down. You don't seem to have that many. There is an advantage, perhaps birds will help you out and clean them up. The coled winter may help you out as well. I never even bother with mine on my citrus trees which are four old ones, they have a heavey crop each year. You may want to try Bayer's product insectcidal feed product, that way you can control what gets the product..You Pencil plant is poisenoue, don't get white sap on your hands wash it off with oil, and soap. Don't have where kids can touch it. It is dangerous, do it have it where pets may want to play or eat it dogs especially dumb, a cat will not eat it. I missed your message about '[Jade' plants. Comments (9)I say chop it, chop it good, into shape, shape it up. You must chop it! Sorry for the silliness, the song just came to mind. But, seriously just chop it of. Let the chopped off piece dry a few days and plant it. Preferably in a different pot, because cuttings need less water that plants with roots. The stump should grow new shoots. Its called beheading, or, more rarely heheading: https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/cacti/query/Beheading/nqrw...See Moreewwmayo
