Crassula ovata 'crosby's compact'
I have seen pics of this Jade online, and just received one in the mail, and it isn't, well, compact! One stem is much longer than the others, as you can see from the pic. How would you remedy this? I'd like it to be a little more neat looking.

Comments (24)Well, I debated whether I should post these updates, as I certainly don't want my posting to appear antagonistic. That said, I took the pics to be shared, so that's what I'll do. I'm most excited that the obliqua is showing signs of new growth...sure, I believed it would, but taking a Jade back to nothing always presents a risk. Comments (13)Josh, thanks for the comparison. To me, the second you posted has leaves that look a lot like a miniature version of 'Hummel's Sunset'. Is this one one that is considered to be true 'Crosby's Compact'? My minor looks a lot like your first picture now but in the summer it was bright yellow. Unfortunately I don't have a saved picture of it from then on the computer I am using. I actually bought it as a regular jade from Wal-Mart and noticed that the leaves were never getting to the right size just this past summer season! Is the smaller one in the third picture the same as the one in the first? I have a minor cutting from Nancy that never turned this color over the summer but it is a very young cutting. Crenda, I think it is very interesting to see how something so simple, such as a change in the type of pot being used, can completely change the way the leaves look. This is what made me really wonder about whether there are truly separate types or sports of C. ovata minor. I know Christopher has the Himeougonkagetsu but his never turned that golden color that I have read about from what I remember. 5 years agoI wrote a reply, but it's not here! It disappeared. I'll try again. I didn't have the nerve to whack it, so I potted it in two pots. Here's the pic. Also, a Hummel's Sunset I got a few days ago. I'm upset that the seller would send me this sloppy looking plant. I guess some people don't take pride in their plants, although it is healthy.

5 years agoI like them more compact. I am keeping them strictly as house plants. Don't want to bring bugs inside, lol. I was looking at Ripple Jades online, and refrained from buying one because I have three more succulents coming in the mail. I was at Lowe's yesterday, and guess what was there? A Ripple Jade! I'm happy.
