Any small print on the 'actual' card? I've gotten cards before but one has to 'activate' them (which I never do) and in small print it says that the company may not decide to activate after reviewing your information, which means it is just an advertising ploy not an actual card ready to use.

I get lots of 'you have been approved' advertising, I ignore it.

We cut the card up and pitched it. They did say that someone applied for this on December 8.

I hope you didn't give them any identifying information when you called. For example... if you they said that 1970 was your birth year on file, I hope you didn't correct them with the real year.

Most account service places ask you for identifying information before they will even talk to you... that can make it difficult to deal with these problems and not reveal personal info to scammers.

Thieves, that's who. People preying on gullible folks. Sometimes these things are legit, but I err on the side of tossing them like the junk mail (or email) that they most likely are. Do NOT give any personal information!

on the one that was an actual credit card I did not call the number on the card. I called the number that was attached to the letter. Oh I hope I didn't do any further damage. i did not give them my SS# I did call the credit bureau (Equifax) and put a block on my credit report. The one that said it was a rewards card I call the bank number. This was the same bank that deals with our other cards. They also put a fraud alert on that one. I am really sick and tired of hearing about all the scams and theft happenings. Seems like more this year than last.

I always ignore all the credit card notices and reward notices I get in the mail. Throw them away! Don't even open them. And don't call them and engage them in a conversation. They MIGHT be legit, and they MIGHT NOT BE, too.

Don't throw them in the garbage! People find them and you're right back where you started.
