Need White Elephant gift ideas
Comments (20)We always have a WE gift exchange at my office party. One gift that's been circulating for years is a china white bull. Truly hideous, but it originated, I believe as someone's wedding gift, and it's been given for years. The trick to re-gift it is to wrap it extravagantly, hiding its contents. We have a system so that people can choose a gift, and then others get the chance to take it away before it's unwrapped. We have given Xmas gift soaps, originating from a dollar store with truly ugly Xmas motifs. Other gifts included a handmade, truly awful looking pheasant w/real (and molting) feathers, a cookie jar that would have scared the most intrepid child, 70s and 80s LPs, junk jewelry. It's a fun part of the party and keeps us from talking about work all the time!...See MoreNeed gift ideas for this Person
Comments (23)I have three of these brothers. Christmas is always a fun time. (Not.) Does he have Netflix or Hulu Plus? You can give him several months of streaming video, if he likes to watch TV. A "luxury" brand of something he uses often? Like gourmet coffee or chocolate or nachos? If he has a favorite movie or TV show, something related to that? I knitted one brother a Doctor Who scarf last year and he loved it. Even though he's not into gadgets, what about one of those emergency radios? The ones with a flashlight and charging port, that run on batteries but can also be hand-cranked. Nearly everyone has power outages at some point, and needs some emergency gear. Two places I've found good gifts for my brothers: Restoration Hardware and ThinkGeek. Check out RH's gift section--look at the stocking stuffers. There are a lot of ideas there. ThinkGeek does have a lot of techy stuff, but there's some useful home gadgets there as well. In addition to a cat hammock that my cats just love. (Would he like a gift for the cats?) It's a good place for outside-the-box gifts. Granted, he is probably not going to want the Zombie Apocalypse Garden Gnomes, but they have a lot of iPhone and iPad accessories, desk/office stuff, and a lot of things related to coffee and bacon, which a lot of guys seem to like....See MoreWedding: I need gift idea
Comments (28)Not knowing the couple, I'm short on ideas. I do have our invitation, decoupaged on wood and done by my mother. I haven't displayed it for years, but it's meaningful and I wouldn't get rid of it. I have my bouquet - dried not preserved so it doesn't look wonderful but I know what it is and that's what counts ;0) I can happily admit to having my brownie sash with all the badges too in a zippered little satin envelope in my lingerie chest. When I'm sorting, updating, I take it out and look at it, fold it carefully and put it back - with a pair of my childhood white Easter gloves that are about 2 1/2 inches long finger tip to wrist. I don't display a lot of personal things, it's not my decorating style but it doesn't mean they aren't important to me. Watchme, along with the brownie sash, there has been a cheaply made trophy here all our married lives, something presented to DH at a grade school hoop shoot tournament. And, all those years, I've heard from a friend of his that the trophy should have been his, of the two of them, he was the better player than DH. We're talking about maybe 4th grade, I barely remember 4th grade. When friend turned 50, I wrapped the trophy and gave it to him for his birthday present. He cried, and it's in their game room displayed now....these things matter to some ;0)...See MoreNeed gift ideas for my own son!
Comments (25)I got the game Exploding Kittens for my family. Supposed to be fun, haven’t played it but we will all be home Christmas week and we like to play games when we have enough free time. I got another game too but ugh, can’t remember what it’s called! I still get Legos for my 25 yo because he was such a huge fan of Legos and always asked for a huge kit every year until midway through his teens. I just get him a small Lego for his stocking these days. I got all my kids (16, 22, 25) these weird sticker books, sort of a spin on the adult coloring books I think...you can search for them on Amazon. I think my 25 year old (the creative one) will get into it, not sure about the others but maybe! I’ll give them to them on Christmas Eve, since it falls on Sunday and could potentially feel like a long day since we have nothing planned until evening. I always also get him a sketch pad and some fancy pens (he draws quite a bit, always in black ink). Hmm. Maybe a Go Pro? No idea how much they cost. All 3 of my kids also enjoyed making gingerbread houses from a kit last year. I might get them again for Christmas Eve Eve!...See Morephoggie
