which wall ovens? Gaggenau or Capital or is something else better
Comments (45)"I could have gotten great floor model discounts on both but I want the new stuff! Can someone tell me the main diff off the top of their heads about the master chef and combo steam Mieles, the new ones?" There are three control systems, DirectSelect (equivalent to older Chef series), SensorTronic (equivalent to older MasterChef series), and M Touch (completely new system). The former two are extremely similar to the models they replaced; the only real differences that I can see are an updated look and 2 convection fans instead of one. Nothing really compelling over buying a floor model. Remember that the older models are proven. Latest and greatest is not always the best choice. You will be a beta tester for the new oven and if you encounter problems, you will need to report them and wait while the engineers figure out how to fix them. However, the M Touch series does have some features that might be worth buying a new model for. You get 15 extra MasterChef programs over the SensorTronic series that are used for bread baking. The meat probe is wireless. It will have the RemoteVision feature that lets Miele monitor it remotely and see problems. It has "Moisture Plus" which must be plumbed but automatically introduces moisture to the oven for bread baking, etc. It has a rotisserie motor (though you have to buy the rotisserie separately). And it has a color touch screen. The big advantage of you buying the M touch convection oven is that the combi steam only comes in M touch. Getting the M touch main oven means the interface will be the same....See Morerestocking fee?! (new thermador vs. old gaggenau induction cookto
Comments (26)doug_gb ~ I generally appreciate all replies to my queries, but yours is extremely offensive and completely unnecessary on an otherwise supportive forum such as this. What is your purpose for writing such a rude response when you have nothing useful to offer? Regarding the restocking fee, I have never stated that I didn't want to pay any penalty at all for exchanging the units. I still do not believe that there is anything wrong with asking this forum how much a reasonable or standard restocking fee is in this type of situation. Yes, the dealer did process the order and deliver it, as your said w/ insurance, etc., but wanting to charge over $1000 extra for "restocking" would seem excessive to most consumers. Rather than "raising hell" with them immediately, I took the time to ask more experienced people on this forum what they thought was reasonable and fair in this situation, because this is my first purchase of major appliances and I did not know what the typical policy is. I have been happy with my dealer in every other respect and they've certainly made a healthy profit from having all of my business. Since you do not know me at all, except for this post, I would say that someone who cares enough to do so is the exact opposite of self-centeredness. I've never expected any appliance to make my "food taste better". My husband and I have waited years and finally saved up enough money for our new house and dream kitchen, so we certainly won't apologize for researching the pros and cons of the expensive appliances that we are purchasing. I've never professed to be a chef or even a cook with particular experience, so your statement about your family's cooking expertise is completely irrelevant and has nothing to do with whether or not I might be "insecure". True, Mario Batali or Hubert Keller may be able to whip up the greatest meals on a hot stone, but that has nothing to do with most home cooks. I am simply a very busy mom who makes food for my family everyday. The Sensor Dome and CookSmart programmed functions on the new version of the Thermador are not meant for the executive chefs of the world, but are convenience features for the less capable cooks among us. My frustration, which has nothing to do with security, is that accurate and detailed information has not been made available by the manufacturer (BSH) about the Gaggenau and the new Thermador cooktops. I needed to find out if the new features that the salespeople were so excitedly touting are functions that will be truly useful to the average cook, or if they are gadgets that will be forgotten about after the first few weeks. So I posted on this forum to ask if anyone knows more info about these cooktops to help me make an informed decision. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, and if you did not like it or didn't know the answers, then you did not have to reply at all. Luckily, others have been far more helpful than you and I really appreciate their input in my situation....See MoreWhat Bosch / Thermador / Gaggenau appliances should we consider?
Comments (6)If you are not willing to spend Subzero money on refrigeration I think BSH units are as good as any. Especially with a good discount I would take BSH units over Liebherr. If you are not going with a high powered gas cooktop/range then BSH ventilation and cooktops are as good as any. Doubly so with a good discount. If you do not want to spend Miele money on a dishwasher then the BSH units are as good as any. The Bosch Evolution 800 Plus Series SHE68E15UC is the TOL German made unit. Extremely water/energy efficient,40db, built in water softner. Usually goes for a little north of $1500. The others are made in North Carolina. With a healthy discount that becomes very attractive. I am not a wine storage aficionado but Gaggenau makes one: RW404760. Again, not expert on speed ovens but Thermador makes them. Thermador has a single full size convection oven with speed cooking. Thermador Masterpiece DM301ES. I think I rather buy one of these and a regular microwave or drawer microwave. Are Thermador/Bosch ovens any good? Other than Gagg/Wolf/Miele I think they are as good as any. If not willing to spend that kind of money then BSH with good discount is very attractive....See Morewall ovens - Wolf M Series, Gaggenau, or Bosch Benchmark
Comments (14)hvtech42: I agree with what you said about the swing, and I can also see why some would have an issue with opening from the left and essentially having to go around the door (unless open completely... which I would imagine you would do most of the time anyway). My current ovens are 13 yrs old. They are horrible. They don't seal properly, and the temp varies widely and - more troubling - inconsistently. I have had them serviced multiple times, but it seems nothing can be done. I honestly never know whether a dish will take an hour or 90 minutes. I cook extensively for family and entertain on a regular basis, so I am looking forward to a dependable oven....See Morelharpie
