What flooring did you do in your finished basement?
Comments (38)I did our basement floor with Delta-FL (like dricore but all plastic) as a "subfloor" and Allure linoleum floating floor from HD. It meets requirements (cheap tough dry play room) but it is not a proper installation. The delta product wants a sub floor if the laminate is not used. Because the floor does not have a proper subfloor it is really soft - which is great for 4 young kids banging their heads, but not for heavy furnature feet. We have had problems with water in the basement. I have made some changes outside (grading and downspouts) that I hope fixes the problem. However, I still plan to have water down there at somepoint. The Delta keeps the floor off the concrete and a sump pump makes sure it gets rid of any water that might accumilate. If the pump fails or some other problem and the basement floods, the linoleum is water proof. Delta is $0.51/sq ft and the Allure was $1.67/sq ft....See MoreShow me your tiled-in showers! Comments (4)Thank you. Of all the bathrooms I've done, that one in particular is my favorite, too. It's the only bathroom I've done in the last few years where the owner let me design it. Of course I had to pass all my designs by him for approval, but yeah, if you can't tell, I'm pretty proud of it! :-)...See MoreTiling removable tub facing
Comments (5)would it help to actually screw studs (not attached to the frame holding up the tub) directly to the plywood prior to tiling? It seems that combining structural studs with the plywood would help the rigidity. I've thought about doing that. The only thing that makes me reluctant to try it is that would be more weight pulling at the back of the panel, in an "other than straight up and down force". Meaning that it would tend to pull in on the top of the panel, and conversely, push out on the bottom, which, over time, would weaken and subsequently tear the caulk joint, making the panel fail. Additionally, could a product like Ditra over the plywood help isolate flexing in the plywood? I don't think it would make a difference, and quite frankly, I haven't found a problem with plywood panels....See Morewill tile crack under washing machine???
Comments (10)Ditra & cbu aka cement board offers no stiffness or structure to a subfloor, ditra is used alot in bathroom serves at being water proof and will hold back water if passes through the tile if failer. There is a similar product same co. And that's kerdi mat which is used to mat up the walls like in a shower stall you can not use ditra in that case as its not a uncuplingmembrane. Cbu and ditra are for bond to hold thinset down because even though it's possible to tile over plywood it's not by Standered....See More- 8 years ago
