An Early Christmas Present

Seems the Feds have arrested that creep Shkreli who bought the drug company that makes "obscure but critical" medications and jacked up the price 6000%. The arrest is not for that but for lying to and deceiving his investors in and running a Ponzi scheme. Couldn't happen to a nicer fella. Warms my heart.

Without a smiley face or other character combination, there's no way to tell if your first comment was serious or not. You've repeated a similar sentiment in your second post so I'm not sure what your intended meaning is for either.

I believe you if you're saying that your experience is that greed and selfishness were rampant and visible throughout your travels in the business world. I'm wondering if the view that you're saying is common is coming from people who similarly are relating what they experienced themselves or just passing on what they've heard. I'm going to guess it's the second and that what you hear are really uninformed opinions on this topic. I hear a lot of those too.

In my career as an advisor to medium and large tech companies, bad conduct was pretty rare. Which was why I've responded to your comment as i have, I think it's unfair to use too broad a brush to suggest that one person's misconduct suggests that misconduct is widespread. I don't know about Canada where you are, and you may know nothing about the US, but American laws concerning business integrity and financial honesty are pretty strong and are seriously enforced. The guy was arrested and charged, that's the result of an investigation and enforcement of the law.

Thanks for the suggestions. This looks like a shoe rack, but the shoes would have to be a size 18 or so. I looked at the store display businesses online and didn't see one. It may have been custom made for a particular business. There are lots of store display items that would work for something like this. The curves can be sawed off to use it for a bottle tree or something else. I'll probably plant some plants in it besides the empty pots, and hadn't thought of the coconut hair. It would work nicely. Thanks for the weed cloth tip. Sounds like a good idea for any of these basket type plantings. Storing dolls or animals on it would be fun. They could be climbing every which way on it. It would be a good clothes line also. If we can get it together soon enough we may light it up in the front yard for Christmas. I spray painted it green today and will post a photo tomorrow on this thread. It looks a lot better already. It comes apart just by unthreading it off the pole. There are 3 sets of 2 levels. They're pretty stable and could be used separately on posts or a tabletop. It's amazing how many great ideas people here come up with. Now who wants to go on a dumpster store rack hunt, lol?! Marilyn, we were in Tucson in 1979, the Sonora Desert Museum was incredible even back then. They didn't have their Hummingbird exhibit then :o( but we thoroughly enjoyed what they did have, I could have spent all day there. We also saw part of the filming of 'The Gambler' at old Tucson, went into the caves, that was an eery experience when they turned the lights out for a minute. I thought I saw a Anna's this summer when the Rufus were here but couldn't say for sure as it was here and gone so quickly I didn't get a good look. The Anna's for a very long time were only found in a very small area of the city but now seem to be spreading out into other neighborhoods. These little gems don't migrate so now that we have them we will make sure there's fresh food for them at all times...Annette

I'm in awe of those of you who are organized. What a grand tool box, Caroline! We are a pair of packrats, incorrigible. The Scrap Man comes by and reminds us every now and then that we're supposed to be throwing away and we keep moving things around. The space fills up again with objects that need lengthy goodbyes. We dragged the old Ford Truck from under the equipment shed for the Scrap Man to take away, and DH rearranged all his toys. At lunch, he described to me a battery operated nail driver that is on sale somewhere and then admitted that he has an air impact nail driver that has never been out of the box. No, it isn't the way business is done. He's accused of breaking several laws completely unrelated to the drug pricing matter that got so much press coverage.

"Let the market decide" doesn't refer to situations when fraud has been committed. I hope you understand the difference but maybe not.

I was, somewhat tongue-in-cheek, presenting a view that has become rampant in our system, especially in recent years.

I am not agreeable or sympathetic to the unrestrained greed that seems to be so much a part of our society, in recent times, where so many are so much more in love with the dollars than with people.

From what I see on TV, this man's odd behavior goes well beyond greed. I heard he has a YouTube channel where he videos himself sitting around his house doing nothing. With that baby face, he should be popular in prison.

I think your characterization is unreasonable, jeaninwa. He was arrested and indicted under criminal charges of a few types of fraud and also had civil charges filed against him by the SEC. The charges relate to his actions, not to the nature of the persons who may have been harmed.

The drug pricing matter that attracted well-deserved criticism may be despicable but it's something separate and apart. It hasn't been shown to have violated any laws.
