NEW: Winter Sowing Swap 2014-2015
Comments (148)Dem-Pa, I love your pics. I can't wait to see flowers again. Some of my camellias are blooming, so it isn't like I don't have color in the yard, I am just too ready for spring. I know it will arrive here sooner than a lot of other places, I am just not a winter person. After about a month I am ready for spring again. I started about 40 different varieties in ziplock baggies yesterday. Now the waiting begins. I have checked the two wintersow jugs I have already started, but there is no sign of life yet. I have been collecting jugs and bottles of all shapes and sizes. I have a question though, when you cut windows in the jugs, do you let them sit open all winter? I haven't ever done that and wonder with my temperatures fluxuating ( sp) as much as they do if the windows would help. It will be 52 here tonight, but 30 tomorrow night.......See MoreIt's 2015....time for a new post about Vaccuum cleaners for Pet hair!!
Comments (4)I still like using my Roomba since I can run it daily (with scheduler) to stay on top of things. I have a long haired dog and 1 cat but I'd bet your short haired dogs shed much more than my long haired one. Seems they're constant vs seasonal shedders....See MoreMy New Acquisitions from the San Diego C&SS Show June 2015
Comments (39)Coolice- After this purchase I will have no space left at all for newer plants. I have enough room to do my usual propagation but, when those have grown up a little I usually find good homes for them. I don't mind giving what I've grown to anyone..as long as I feel they could take care of the plant properly. After all, these are living creatures...to be respected and protected as any other living creature. I know it's corny but it's how I feel....See MoreNew food labeling bill introduced...
Comments (25)I do know several small farmers who refuse to be certified as "organic" because they feel that is misleading as American standards allow the use of many . They will instead label their products as "pesticide free" or "produced in an organic manner" or something similar. They are always happy to tell anyone who asks about their growing methods. Most will employ biological controls, like predator insects, or mechanical devices like my "fake apples" brushed with a sticky substance that traps coddling moths. The bigger corporation farms will spray and dust more regularly, as they have the equipment to do so. Not all "natural pesticides" are harmless to humans, as once thought, and so things like rotenone, which is derived from plant sources like jicama vine has been found to kill fish and is "mildly" harmful to humans. Whatever that means, one would think it was harmful or not. However, if an item is labelled "organic", it will, at least at this point, be GMO free. Annie...See More- 10 years ago
