I am making a chicken with vegetables and noodles soup.

Reheated roasted sweet potatoes, reheated ham slice, and romaine with Italian dressing.

I'm braising a pot roast, real comfort food. After browning the meat, I'm using water, instant coffee, tomato paste, a pinch of dried herbs, and a couple of garlic cloves as the braising liquid. Later on, I'll add onions, carrots, and potatoes (for Robert) to the pot.

I'm fix some green beans, too.

I tell you, the coffee makes the best flavored broth for beef!

Lots of variety tonight. rhizo, I read recently about using coffee w/ beef! I don't often do a roast like that so I hope that the next time it comes up I will remember to try it! :p

Had to do a lot of shopping this afternoon and I picked up a roasted chicken. Also grabbed kale to make greens & beans to go with it. It just sounds good. :)

I cooked the last part of a rotisserie chicken I'd gotten a few days ago yesterday, making some excellent broth, with some chicken I'd picked off the bones. Today I cooked vegetables in it, and added cooked rice at the end. Delicious odor throughout my home. I ate leftovers from a couple of other meals tonight though. Will have the soup tomorrow.

Zatarain's gumbo with rice. Will toss in half a pound of shrimp. Cottage cheese, sliced tomatoes, Texas toast.

I bet I can't even SAY "fried flounder fingers" after a sip of Jim's Zinfandel! lol

DH went to our library, then stopped at our local market for their Tuesday special, "Three Buck Chuck" (used to be "Two Bucks") so we're having hamburgers tonight. I have a ripe avocado to add to some greens for a salad. There's a bit of leftover mashed potato for DH. Oh, look at the TIME! I better get the ketchup out of the fridge for DH.

Jim, my husband came home with a six-pack of Best Damn Root Beer the other day and it was sooo good, what a surprising taste treat for a beer. I only had a couple of sips but I loved it.

Another refreshing beverage is Angry Orchard, a hard cider. I've always fresh pressed cider and to have the hard stuff right out of the bottle is great.

I've been busy preparing lunch for 10 neighbors tomorrow. Right now I'm waiting for the molded gazpacho salad to set enough to add the veggies. Still have to make the avocado dressing for it and have to make the raspberry sauce for my Charlotte rouse. Shrimp and asparagus casserole is sitting in the garage fridge, ready to grand the table is set. I just heated up some pizza for DH and I'm snacking on some butternut squash hummus. Will watch Jeopardy then get back to work.

We went to "The Wharf" for fresh Halibut Fish and Chips. OHMY....it is always wonderful!

Jim, the pizza looks great. What's with the cardboard(?) under-liner?

Just as it might be in some pizza joints, I put the round cake circle under the pie when I served it. I don't use any metal with my pizzas. I pull it out of the oven with the peel, put it on the circle and cut it there, then serve.

I ran out of mozzarella, so sprinkled a bit of other cheeses on top.

Oh, fine. Now I have a taste for pizza. There's a Connie's 'supreme' in the freezer. I just pick the green pepper off it. (Always feels 'soapy' in my mouth.) Add some cheese and it's fine, if a bit too salty. (Aren't they all?)

I'm in 'paring down' mode now. Only a few weeks until we leave for Maui. I like to leave a clean fridge for the house sitter.
