How to remove dried adhesive/scuffs from unfinished wood floors?
Comments (3)To get a perfect stain you may need to sand it down to bare wood. You could use a courser grit or carefully spot-scrape if you want the wood to remain textured. Not knowing your exact floor it is hard to give exact recommendations. Depending on the adhesive you used (Bostiks Best, etc) it is very unlikely anything will wipe it off after it is dried....See MoreNeed help with blending Bona DriFast wood stain colors
Comments (2)And gray doesn't tone down red (gray actually turns red to PINK)...GREEN tones down red. A floor that dark won't matter what colour base you work with. It will look 'black' most of the time anyways. Any flooring professional worth his/her salt will offer MANY stain patches on your freshly sanded floors. They will then apply a single coat of finish. They will go home for the night. You will 'live' with the patches for a day or two and then pick the colour patch that you like THE MOST. The professional will then come back, sand off the patches and then start the staining process using the mix you like the most. Always, and I mean ALWAYS visit the site every evening during the refinishing process. You want to ensure the stain colour put down + 1 coat (over the entire floor) is REALLY what you want. If you feel the colour isn't working for you, it is BEST to figure that out after day 1...not day 3....See MoreCan I Stain Wood Floor after sealer was applied?
Comments (37)They told me today that there is a varnish that is transparent. In their opinion, they say it will not yellow and that any yellowing happens after years and years. Not sure if I should just let them do what they are used to doing and not try so hard to look for a water based finish....See MoreHow to get rid of blotchy areas from wood filler after staining
Comments (6)Staining pine is always the hardest thing to do. It has extreme density differences that produce the kind of variation you are seeing. The Minwax Polyshades is a horrible product, I've never seen a good outcome come of it. I'd strongly advise choosing wood that is the color you want to start with and avoiding stain all together. If you must, sand back to bare wood, apply a seal coat of dewaxed shellac and then spray an alcohol soluble wood dye, eg TransTint (not an oil stain) over it, then finish. Pine frustrates the best pros, I'd just paint it and be done. If you must have stained pine take it to the best finisher you can find and let a pro do it. To be blunt, those are not boards I'd mess with for anything other than framing or concrete forms....See MoreC3WoodWerks
