Where to buy xmas garlands/decor?
Comments (9)Thanks for the replies! Jeanne, unfortunately there isn't a Hobby Lobby anywhere around here that I've ever heard of. I'll see if they have a website though. jaybird, I've never seen much at the Michael's nearest here. :( It's quite a small store! they have just a touch of each thing. I have never found the items I've looked for there (weaving supplies, chip boxes, and a few other things like that). We had an ACMoore's that was MUCH better stocked, and I loved to shop there, but unfortunately that closed a couple years ago. I order from Joann Fabric on-line site quite a bit... I'll also try there. But Lowe's?! wow... I'll make a point of checking there because there's one close by! Thank you! I think it's a case of not having many stores like this nearby me. Now that my porch is finally being re-done (yeah!), I'd like to find some nice wintery decor to hang over the the windows. :)...See MoreXmas decor:Anyone else feeling that less is more this year?
Comments (62)I am also one who has enjoyed reading this thread. I have gotten rid of a lot of my Christmas decorations...and I was one the used to put a tree in every room (including the bathrooms), but have cut waaaayyy back....mostly because of health problems and a DH who does not "decorate"....so the outside lights are not put out anymore....because in this cold Kansas weather, it was me out there in January taking them down. I put wreaths with red bows in the windows, along with battery operated candles and a big wreath on the front door. I only put up a smaller tree in the LR and one in the basement family room where we all gather on Christmas to exchange gifts.....and of course, do decorate the fireplace mantle and I use a lot of bright red poinsettias scattered around. I always put out my grouping of singing carolers...they are so ugly that they are cute...and of course, never leave out the two nativity scenes that mean so much to me. When I looked through all of my boxes of decorations, I just kept telling myself.....what you take up from the basement has to come back down....and with my bad knees, it didn't take me long to just leave them there. I do believe that less is more...too many decorations doesn't give the eye a place to rest and gives the "cluttered" look. However you chose to decorate, I hope that each of you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and I hope that 2009 will be a better year for all of us....See MoreA 2nd Chance at X-Mas Decorating!
Comments (16)I personally would be happy with very little or no Christmas decor - I have tubs and tubs in the basement too. I've pared down but, every year I put out the outdoor lights, setup the tree and take everything out of the built in bookshelf so the Christmas village has a home. I do this for my son because he gets so much pleasure out of it and I know at 11 years old, he'll only be interested in all of this for a few more years. Your six year old's stocking hanging is precious. Enjoy letting them decorate the house - they get so much pleasure out of Christmas at this age - it doesn't have to be overboard, but can still look festive. For the last few years, my son has "decorated" the tree. We have a prelit artificial tree, so all I have to do is set it up and plug it in. I used to get so stressed about where every ornament was and whether the little ones were on top etc. One year he told me - I'll do it Mom, you don't have to worry! I think we was about 9 at the time. So in total frustration with the whole holiday gig I said - sure have at it. Of course only the bottom half of the tree had ornaments, and I controlled myself to the point of only rearranging a few so they were a little more balanced. It was still very pretty, and I wasn't exhausted and stressed at the end, so now he decorates the tree and I do the Christmas Village. Somehow DH gets out of all this Christmas decor setup...hmmm!...See MoreHave you started your xmas decorations yet?
