Where to buy xmas garlands/decor?

Hi --

Where are the best places to find xmas/winter garlands for a good price? (not the ordinary plain all-green uniform size stuff). Are there any good on-line sources? or do you all just buy individual pieces and 'picks' and put them together yourself?

Hobby Lobby (for me, anyway) ...they start displaying Christmas decor in July & right now they're 50% ...which they will be several times before the holidays! Jeanne S.

Michaels, and they have a 40% off coupon each week...just in case they are not already on sale. The prettiest "fullest" garland and matching wreath that I have ever seen, was at Lowes!! I was really surprised, but it was beautiful!
Joann Fabrics and Crafts always has some pretty ones as well.

Kudzu, last year I got the purple peacock and two sparkly silver ones at Michaels. The purple fairy came from eBay, her outfit is sparkly beads. Marlene, I'm so sorry about your knee. I know how knee pain can really hinder one. Hope you heal soon. Over the last couple of years, I've collected purple ornaments when I saw them. Then someone told me Walmart had these little purple trees and I just couldn't resist getting one. Jeanne, sorry your body isn't your friend either. I've decided getting older isn't for wimps, LOL. SusieRose, WOW...elegant huh? You sure made my head swell right up like a balloon! Susiesunshine, bless your heart, you always make me grin like the Cheshire Cat. LOL Thank you for the compliments, Kathy. And Everyone! Oh, I think my family is lucky I only bought the little purple Walmart tree. (actually its lavender)....cause I saw this BIG purple tree on the web and WOW. How I'd love to have this one. By the way, if any of you love looking at Christmas Inspiration photos, I did a big ol' album for my Holidays Forum. Over 200 pictures in there. I am also one who has enjoyed reading this thread. I have gotten rid of a lot of my Christmas decorations...and I was one the used to put a tree in every room (including the bathrooms), but have cut waaaayyy back....mostly because of health problems and a DH who does not "decorate"....so the outside lights are not put out anymore....because in this cold Kansas weather, it was me out there in January taking them down. I put wreaths with red bows in the windows, along with battery operated candles and a big wreath on the front door. I only put up a smaller tree in the LR and one in the basement family room where we all gather on Christmas to exchange gifts.....and of course, do decorate the fireplace mantle and I use a lot of bright red poinsettias scattered around. I always put out my grouping of singing carolers...they are so ugly that they are cute...and of course, never leave out the two nativity scenes that mean so much to me. When I looked through all of my boxes of decorations, I just kept telling myself.....what you take up from the basement has to come back down....and with my bad knees, it didn't take me long to just leave them there. I do believe that less is more...too many decorations doesn't give the eye a place to rest and gives the "cluttered" look. However you chose to decorate, I hope that each of you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and I hope that 2009 will be a better year for all of us.

We had some decent sales around here, but everything was pretty picked over before Christmas. I've only been to Pottery Barn & JC Penney's since Christmas. Our Pottery Barn had a lot of their stuff at 50% off, but even so it's like $5/ornament. Michael's had 50% off their ornaments several times before Christmas. By the weekend before, their stock was pretty low. They had nothing in the colors I'm using. Home Goods, which already had good prices, also had their stuff on sale, but most of it was gone. I think most stores kept their inventory pretty lean this year. I don't usually see things sell out so early.

Jeanne, unfortunately there isn't a Hobby Lobby anywhere around here that I've ever heard of. I'll see if they have a website though.

jaybird, I've never seen much at the Michael's nearest here. :( It's quite a small store! they have just a touch of each thing. I have never found the items I've looked for there (weaving supplies, chip boxes, and a few other things like that). We had an ACMoore's that was MUCH better stocked, and I loved to shop there, but unfortunately that closed a couple years ago. I order from Joann Fabric on-line site quite a bit... I'll also try there. But Lowe's?! wow... I'll make a point of checking there because there's one close by!

Thank you! I think it's a case of not having many stores like this nearby me. Now that my porch is finally being re-done (yeah!), I'd like to find some nice wintery decor to hang over the the windows. :)

Party, I've been putting together my own the last two years. That way I can do bigger or fuller ones at a lot less cost. And its easy, use lots of 'picks' to fill them.

I have hit the after-Christmas sales at Michaels and got wreaths when they are 70% off. And sometimes I buy things from Etsy that are handmade and one of a kind, tho they can be pricey. But I figure a great wreath will last the rest of my life, LOL. I also look at Etsy for ideas, as well as other places on the Web. Our Forum Christmas album
has lots of pictures of wreaths and garlands to help you be 'creative' and make your own. ;o)

Great ideas, Karen! I remember seeing some kind of photo collection (inspiration/ideas album?) a very long time ago, but I don't have any idea how to find that now! Is there a link somewhere?

I'm sorry Party, I should have included the link. Old Blonde syndrome strikes again. LOL.
The Christmas albums have a ton of stuff to browse, and boy do I ever do that when I can't sleep. If I could do all the things I want to in those photos, I'd need a castle to decorate and Donald Trump to marry. LOL.

I usally find nice stuff at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Home Goods. Trying to find some nice fall wreaths for this year right now though and HomeGoods had a very poor selection,although I am hoping they are still getting more in.

Karen, thank you for posting the link! I'm going to bookmark it. OMG... it will take me HOURS to look through all the beautiful photos, and not just for xmas either! :)

Party, do I dare tell you we've got over a 1000 photos now in our Inspiration albums! LOL. And I add more whenever and whereever I find them. I was looking at the neat Halloween ideas last night, not many in that album but some good ones to be inspired by. I am trying to forget its going to be 112 here this week!
