Chandeliers with Xmas decorations anyone? Pics please.

I've seen them in magazines, but I was wondering if anyone does this "in real life". I've got a dining room chandelier that's due to be swapped out for something nicer than the 1980's brass one I've got. However, with so much going on this month & DH's work travel schedule, I'm not holding my breath that it'll actually get done until the new year.

So, I was just wondering if anyone has pictures of chandeliers decorated for Christmas. I just picked up some nifty bell shades for 24 cents a piece at Lowes in a gold and red stripe. Even if they don't exactly "go", for the price I think they look kinda Christmas-y. Now I want to disguise, um, I mean decorate the arms.

I'd love some inspiration.

We don't have a chandelier, so don't have that dilemma. If you google this, and go to videos, as in the link below, you can come up with lots of ideas!

I don't have pictures, but I have the exact same chandelier. :-) These are some of the things I have done to mine.

I buy decorative candle rings and slip them over the "candle" part of the fixture to sit on the dish at the bottom. Don't forget to take out the bulb if they won't go over easily.

If they still don't fit, and the ring part is plastic, you can snip the plastic in one place and just slip it around.

I have used both real and faux garland to lay around the chandelier nestled at the bottom of the curve of the arm. Wrap the garland with sparkly ribbons, beads, or whatever works with the rest of your decor.

Where the arm curves back and attaches to the fixture just above the big ball at the bottom, you could hang more little sparkly ornaments to hang below the ball, or wind some sparkly ribbon around to rest on that.

I'm just recovering from a hip replacement, so there will not be a lot of decorating here this year. :(

Bucky you haven't burned up yet? How is the orchard? Good to see you on the forums still! We have been making dogwood wreaths for about 1 month, dogwood stars for 3 weeks, rosehip wreaths for 3 weeks, boxwood/rosehip squares for about 2 weeks, christmas wreaths were started about 2 weeks ago. Next up this next week is curly willow. 1985 when we first started making wreaths seems so long ago. We used a wrap form to wrap them. REF machines and rings: I have used Kelco it is nice, but very expense. Mitchell's machine is the cheapest, but it only has the clamper and wreath material comes lose often. The best machine in my opnion is the the wreath master from maple ridge supply, it has a clamper and arm that comes over and makes the wreath very tight. I have 3, a guy making wreaths about 35 miles from me has 4 and a guy that we trade with in CA has 2. They really are the best. Now to rings... Maple used to buy and resell Mitchell's rings. Here are the 4 that I have used: Maple ridge good but resells, Mitchell's usually the best price unless you are buying a pallet of 4,800 on a 10 clamp pallet. Cherokee the best price in the US that I know of, BUT you need to buy a pallet! Oregon wire is nice if you like them painted already or vinyl, but they are expensive. For christmas wreaths we are using douglas and sub alpine fir, juniper, rosehips, incease cedar, port orford cedar and pine cones. Wholesale prices have dropped to around $1 a clamp the lowest in years. Stars are more money of course we are charging $15 for a 10 clamp 4' star made of dogwood. Those of you only making a few may I suggest going to your nearest green waste facility or dumps. We by a forest service bough permit. It is .10 a pound and we cut boughs off the lower branches of the trees. The biggest problem we have is cutting or getting enough material for 3 wreath makers it takes 2 to 3 truck loads a day. Our bundles usually make 5 to 7 wreaths a bundle. Right now a 10 clamp wreath is selling for $10 to $11 wholesale and $15 to $18 retail. Good luck to all. With the economy we have seen wreath sells drop and wholesalers wanting 60 to 90 days to pay. With $10,000 of wreaths it gets difficult to pay labor, gas, and rings upfront. Bryan

I live in a 107 yr. old Greek Revival that has beautiful old woodwork with several arches that I decorate every year. A few things I do to avoid putting holes in the wood are: Command Hook, can be expensive, but now they have refill tapes and you can save the "hook", just pull slowly on the tape and the whole thing comes off. No marks, good for all kinds of surfaces. The older style of plastic clamps w/ tapes work good for lighter garlands or keeping it in place down the sides. To remove, use a small knife to cut under the tape, then a little goo gone to remove any residual tape. Placing a small nail on top of the woodwork, then using craft wire the attach the garland. As a non-Christian, I am accustomed to having Christmas in my face *and* I find it annoying. I deal with it by avoiding shopping for a 3 month period of time or by doing necessary shopping and tuning out the decor as much as possible. I actually dislike this time of year and it is isolating for me to have everyone else I know focused on a holiday that I don't celebrate. We've decided to build, but if we were still looking at existing houses, I would find excessive Christmas decorations, like excessive *any other* decorations to be distracting--it's hard to visualize my own things in a crowded space. As for highly religious items (of any religion), I find them somewhat unsettling. I could never expect someone to change their religious observations to suit me, though :-) and so I *expect* to see them in people's homes. If they are emphasized (in every room, very religious sayings on the wall), I really have to concentrate to focus on the house itself, since I am uncomfortable with a strong display of religion. Note: this issue is similar to the poster who is afraid of animals--what one person is comfortable with makes another anxious. That doesn't mean we should all get rid of our pets or that we should pretend we don't have religious beliefs. It is a good idea, though, to recognize that we are all different and that others may be made uncomfortable by what we value most. --Beth

Yes we do! My actual library chairs are in my office because of naughty kitties. They will not stay out of the fireplace and they keep tracking soot all through the house. I can only imagine soot prints all over my new chairs so they have been banished to the office until I can find a cat proof solution to them getting in the fp. Toby is the Hoss Cartwright of cats so I can't imagine how he squeezes his chunky self into that tiny space.

This is my own version of something similiar to the picture above from Back Porch Musings.

I wanted that look with just a little less of the greenery.
Sorry if the pictures aren't great it was hard to take a pic that truly captured the look.

Doing one like mine would be great if you have shades as there is no interferance with them.

Sorry, I don't have any pics, but I do like what I do to my chandelier. In my foyer I have a large 15-arm crystal chandelier. I found some red glass faceted tree ornaments that look like chandelier fobs, so I bought a bunch and mixed them all in.

I like the idea about changing the shades. I have ivory ones now, but red would be so much fun for Christmas. It never even occurred to me...

I decorate my kitchen chandelier every year. Most years I use fresh pine boughs and cones, but this year, we didn't have any pine branches fall. (Where are those winter storms when you need them?)

It's half-way done now with fake stuff -- I'll post pictures when I'm done.

Kathec, I have the same chandelier, except larger --
it has 12 lights. Oh, and I painted mine bronze.

Thanks for the inspiration everyone! I love it! Everyone is so creative. I've always decorated for Christmas, but it's been limited to the tree, mantle and banister. The last several years have been hectic holidays where we've either just moved, or were preparing to move in the new year. My decor has been bare bones and last minute.

DH just pulled our xmas boxes down from the attic, so I'll rummage through it and see what I've got. I love the greenery and hanging ornaments. I don't have any pines around me, so I'll be using the fake stuff.

The new-to-me chandelier I have has been sitting in my garage for a year. It came from my mom's upstairs loft, but she decided to swap it out for a ceiling fan. A must have in San Antonio. The new chandy is a bit more ornate with metal leaves and dangling crystals, but it also has more presence than the one I have now.

This old brass one is pretty weighty, but is showing it's age. Once the new one is up, I'm planning to paint it broze and re-hang it in my breakfast nook.

Can't wait to start.

I finally got around to it. I wrapped the arms with a garland, strung up a few ornaments and hung a few beeded icicles. I think I might shorten a few of the ribbons to give it a bit more interest, but other than that I'm pretty satisfied. Hopefully next year I'll take a bit more time to plan it out.

the dining room chandelier is still bare, but the kitchen fixture is all spruced up ~~ HOWEVER ~~ after just perusing and admiring becca's post (so breathtakingly gorgeous!) i am almost embarrassed to post my humble kitchen; but here it is:
