Comments (34)When my youngest decided to become a vegetarian, I was supportive and we talked about what would happen when she was invited to dinners and BBQ's. We both decided that there was always something that she could eat and this wasn't her last meal. If she wan't prepared to bring her own meatless entree than she would make due with what was offered. She once made a grilled cheese sandwich on the grill, which I thought was smart. That said, relatives are different. When I host, I know who won't eat what and plan accordingly. Once I had to laugh at my mish mash of food offerings! Everyone was appreciative though because they knew what specific dish was made on their behalf. Jan, I hear what you are saying. My daughter went to for two years in Madison before transferring out. Brats and beer flying all over the place. Be true to yourself and don't give what others think a second thought. Bring your meatless entree, or just eat the sides. It's a party, and really you are there to enjoy each others company, food should be secondary....See MoreGathering of Greyhounds-Atlanta
Comments (39)Hey FOAS, Jessie wins. I was making a list (*on the paper table cloth at the Watershed Restaurant) of CF members whom I have met; I think I'm at 33 meetings. Ironically Jessie was my first many years ago! *I mention this because someone in our party thought I was writing on a real cloth....See MoreIs it bad etiquette?
Comments (29)Hi everyone! I actually started this thread because I really didn't know what the rules were, but had heard rumors of people being banned or slapped on the wrist for linking their own websites. At the same time I had seen other people who had often linked their websites, or others who had referred people to "others" websites in their posts. I personally like having links such as Florida Joshua's website or some of the stone and tile people like Bill (I didn't even know Bill had a website so apparently he doesn't post his enough!) because they allow me easy access to pertinent info. I do however really dislike it when people gratuitously slap their blog, or website up for everything and at every opportunity, but ONLY if it's not related to the topic at hand. If it's on topic and the link takes you directly to that permalink with the info they are referring to, more power to them! I've often wished that Boxerpups...the "Queen of Amazing Photos" had a blog just so we could find all of her great photos that she painstakingly gathers in one spot. Running around trying to find 20 different photos of a certain type of tile or flooring takes time and she saves us all a lot of time by posting them here. I feel the same way about Attic Mag which I bookmarked long before I ever even came to GW. It's just when someone posts a link to their blog and you click on it and it's about a pair of shoes and not directly linked to say their lovely kitchen or something else on topic that I sigh and think...ok you're clearly just looking for hits on a website, not trying to help me out with the info I'm looking for. I do agree with Allison that the rules are a tad fuzzy in this area, and what's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander. It just seems like some people get "friendly" reminders while other breeze through with their constant irrelevant postings. So, that is why I asked. In this case I thought it was better to ask for permission than to beg for forgiveness...I'm usually the opposite! ;) If people find my blog through GW great, but I would only want that to happen if it truly was giving them information that they were after, not just to watch the "ticker" numbers go up. Thanks so much to everyone for their thoughtful input, maybe this will help all of us in the future. Kat :)...See MoreEyeglasses - Help me with choices and etiquette?
Comments (41)Thank you all. Tina, the first pair is a solid yes-- as are the sunglasses. I still need a second pair. As for buying online-- all I am considering buying online are the frames. Frames I have already chosen locally. It's not any different from trying them on and ordering from a local shop-- except the money doesn't stay local. They are new, in original packaging etc and can be returned. That said, my glasses are ALWAYS sent out for the lenses. My lenses must be specially ground. Still, I order them through the dr office where they take the proper measurements and make the necessary adjustments. smh - yes, you and my nieces! The black glasses above aren't even in the running-- but it was the best photo showing a black frame. There are others that look better.. but I went with the one that showed the color best. 1929 - excellent point! I will start with one pair first-- just because the prescription is tricky. The Dr wanted me to start with one pair.. wait a few weeks to a month and then get the others. Annie, yes your points are all valid.. but shape isn't really a decision I am struggling with. I have had lots of input and help in choosing the frame shape. I've also been wearing glasses for as long as I can remember. Don't worry that I'll go all rogue LOL! While my style can be a touch quirky, it's basically classic with a little funk... never the other way around. Neetsie - There is a model with tortoise shell cat eye but the stems are blue. Too much like the first pair which I am definitely ordering... and they don't have them in the store. I tried them on in the spring but they sold out. The black has black stems and a tiffany blue inside the frame. Much easier to distinguish. I guess I should have shared that since I will be switching from computer/reading glasses to walking around glasses-- even to just go to the bathroom, I want them to be different and distinguishable. Even meetings will be a challenge as I will need one pair to read.. and another to see someone across the table. I am hoping I can adapt to that well enough to not need to constantly switch back and forth and distract others. I guess some would prefer the two to look similar so it wasn't obvious they were wearing two pairs glasses. I guess I can mull that around. practigal - my mom says the same thing about Costco. I haven't tried them as they are no longer convenient to me. I can always check to see if they carry the brands that have been consistently working well for me. Thank you ALL again! You are all so sweet and helpful!...See More- 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
