Comments (3)Macintosh aren't "wild apples." What you'll get if you let the rootstock sprout is probably some kind of crabapple - totally different at any rate, not Macintosh. I don't know how much pruning you'll be able to get away with, but you should definitely cut out the sprouts from the rootstock and the watersprouts that clutter the inside of the tree and branches that cross each other - that's what I think you mean by "opening up the center." Not sure what you mean by cutting off the ends of branches, but that might not be the best thing to do....See Moreleaning apple tree
Comments (6)Great, now I have more confirmation that the semi- dwarf Lapin Cherry tree I want to plant in my front yard will be able to be kept limbed up so once it reaches 15 to 20 or more feet tall it could still allow a nice ratio of front house view, while still offering a great Spring flower display, a good food source for the bees and birds, and a nice amount of ground litter, which should break down into enough mush that can help add lots of humas to the soil beneath the tree. Prune Prune, Prune: a nice activity to do for this tree, in the hottest part of Summer. Hope it's root stock will be strong enough to not need staking even 10 or more years away. Hopefully the nursery where I am about to purchase this tree from, can reveal for me the name of this tree's root stock, so I can research more concerning that issue I hope not to have with the tree....See MoreCan this tree be saved? Comments (5)Poor little guy. Lindens often need to be wrapped in winter when young to avoid what you have. Looks like may be planted too deep as well. Might finish healing. Might not. You'll have a bend in the trunk if you pull it straight. Dan...See MoreWhat is happening to my Apple Tree? Fixes?
Comments (8)Well, very unfortunate, Suzi, sorry to hear that. Be sure to treat your Anna as well. Both tree make some decent apples, and they are our "early" low chill apples. But, I would consider putting in a couple of later apples. I would recommend Fuji and PInk Lady (Cripps). If you think Anna tastes good, you'll flip over Fuji. Fuji is an A++ in flavor, compared to Anna, which would be a B. No comparison. Same for Pink Lady, just a really nice apple. Plus ,you'd then have early and late apples, sort of nice to have.
