Lady Banks Rose - does it have to climb?

I had/have a huge white lady banks rose that I used to love. It climbs up a fence and into part of a tree. It's thornless, needs NO water in our drought stricken area and I love the 'rugged' looking blooms. A few years ago my husband cut it back and put a shed/carport right along side it. The shed blocks the sun and it almost never blooms. If it did I certainly can't enjoy it with a carport in the way...haha. It's a strong plant and I don't think he's killed it but I want to take cuttings and grow it somewhere else on our property. The problem is I don't have a good place for a climbing rose! So my question is would it be crazy to try to train it into a regular shrub with nothing to climb? If not I'm considering building or buying an arbor. Thanks!
