Yes. And it will do it all on its ownself.
I planted one next to a fence. There were trees on the other side of the fence. Next thing I knew the rose was blooming out the top of the tree.

I don't seem to have a picture of the Banksiae banksiae (white double) from the cemetery - but I have several others. Here is Banskiae normalis, the single version, going astonishingly up a 50-ft pine tree -

All of those clamber up the tree without any help from us. We love them all. We have several other Banks roses - Fortuniana, Purezza, Vina Banks (a unique hybrid that was found north of Sacramento), and the single, yellow Banksiae lutescens, shown in the two photos below.

I suspect that white lady banks is fortuniana, but I have no proof of that. I have seen fortuniana with and without thorns. How strange is that. Are there two fortunianas and one is a white lady banks?

Yes, to both of these climbing into trees, cars and unsuspecting neighbor's bathrooms.

WOW! It sure does climb into trees. Thanks for the gorgeous photos cemeteryrose! When I was at the nursery and saw it, I had pictures of the Tombstone, AZ Lady Banks in my head. The Lady Banks roses were in the vine section, not roses. There were yellow ones too, but I prefer the white. I saw them while I was looking at clematis. We have a lot of room here. The neighbors are very far away, and we have some perfect trees for this to climb into. I went back and got two yesterday. The name is Snowflake White Lady Banks and it is armed with thorns. Will it remain evergreen here? Am I letting a monster loose? (A little nervous) Adrienne

"SNOWFLAKE White Lady Banks" is not White Lady Banks.
It is a mis-nomer for FORTUNIANA.

Fortuniana is sometimes sold as White Lady Banks and sometimes sold as "Snowflake."
It is said to be a cross of R. banksiae banksiae (the double form of "White Lady Banks")

There is a single white Banksiae, and a double one (the Tombstone rose).
There is a single yellow Banksiae, and a double one.

The Fortuniana that we grow in the cemetery has plenty of sharp prickles. I spent a bloody morning earlier this week getting it tied up to its arbor. Letting it go up into a tree would be a lot better approach. The prickles are fairly widely spaced, but wicked. If there is a more thornless clone, wish that we were growing it!

The Banksiae I wish was in commerce is that Found one in the cemetery -- "Vina Banks." It's not only lovely, it is also thornless. Wouldn't it look beautiful to make wreaths of it, tied with white, pink, and green ribbons, for little girls to wear on their heads?
