For what are you Thankful?
Comments (40)For all of us being alive. Can't ever forget that. For insurance that allowed me to find out yesterday, after more than 20 years, what the *heck* has been wrong with my knees!!! Having the reason for all my knee pain put right up on an X-ray and narrated to me, complete with validation and several possibly solutions, is absolutely HUGE to me. I haven't been able to run for that long and it turns out my parents (including my pediatrician mom) could have helped me prevent a lot of it years ago if they'd cared when I told them my knees hurt when I skated. But whatever. Yet another reason I've become a much more attentive parent. I'm thankful I have the chance to do it better in the next generation. For the little handheld mixer that we use probably half a dozen times a day--got it at Goodwill For the beautiful flute music DD plays, her wisdom and hilarious sense of humor, and the sight of her running like a goddess (hm, maybe Athena Nike? :)) across fields For Goodwill, seconded :) For a husband who tolerates/possibly even appreciates a wife who obsesses on design constantly... For wonderful neighbors For wonderful friends, real and imaginary :) For adrenal cortex supplement For the Pratt & Larson seconds room And so much else....See MoreBlue Velvet Sofa
Comments (125)We have to start renoing the upstairs by next summer so we will eventually be using that door. Also the nearest outlet is between the patterned chair and the sofa which is quite far from the tv as it is. We sat in there this afternoon and watched a movie with the kids. It was fine. The person in the patterned chair would either have to turn a little or turn the chair and they are light enough to not make it an issue. I'm hoping to find a small tv stand that is pretty close to the ground. I think it will be fine in the corner. Like k9arlene said, casters will make it easy to move it if I need to. I can't flip the furniture around because I have issues (phobias) regarding beam stability and even though we levelled the floor quite a bit, it still dips slightly toward the doors. It freaks me out even though logically I know it's fine. There's no way I'd be able to sit on the sofa with it so close to where I imagine the house will collapse from. The more furniture I put in, the more bare the walls look. I can't wait to start shopping for art! I want to thank everyone again for the input. It's been a really big help....See MoreThe Joy of the Epistolary Novel
Comments (21)Yesterday I re-read Ford's The Good Soldier. The last time I read it was in graduate school, many years ago. What an absolutely fascinating case of an unreliable narrator! And a good study of the stolid English upper class that so intrigues the American. I had forgotten the mad Nancy's single and utterly appropriate word toward the end: "shuttlecocks"!...See MoreVictorian novel...any recommendations?
Comments (16)Simple Monk, One more title that you may enjoy: Lady's Maid by Margaret Forster. This is the fictional inside scoop on what a maid's live was like as told by our narrator, the lady's maid to Elizabeth Barrett before and after she married Robert Browning. Forster is an admirable historian and the book is rich in details. Not to be missed. And your welcome for the help... that's what we do here... share our interest and love of books with others because reading is such a solitary hobby, and there aren't many truly dedicated bibliophiles in the world. At least, not enough of them in my opinion. And in case I didn't say it before, welcome to RP. Hope you stick around. PAM...See MoreGeorgysmom
