Bathroom remodel in a hurry - what would you do?
Comments (7)Does it HAVE to be a quick remodel? I ask because you say "master bathroom" which suggests maybe there is another bathroom in the house. If that's the case, then I'd really look at your absolute needs and see if you can take a little more time to make certain you're happy with the end result. Personally, I'd take a little time (maybe a day or even two) and decide what general look I want. Use pictures online from sites like Houzz or this site and find the aspects you like. Come up with a solid layout (maybe it's essentially what you have but swapping a shower for the tub) as everything goes from there. And decide on a general look (tile colors, accents or no?, painted or stained vanity, counter material, light fixture type/placement, etc) and go from there. I'd then take another day or two and run to actual tile stores (not big box stores) and bring home all the samples I liked. In case you're wondering, I have a giant stack of samples in my basement from doing this myself. Tile is one of the first things to go in, so you want to have that picked out as soon as possible (especially if it has to be ordered). Then while mulling over the tiles (put them in the room if possible or at least in a nearby room) and picking out favorites, I'd hit up plumbing showrooms and do some research on plumbing fixtures. Pick out your shower fixtures so that they can rough in the plumbing in the shower. You can take a little more time with toilet and sinks and faucets, especially if you generally know what you want. They can be installed after the tile. I'd probably then hit up granite yards (or whatever counter material you want) and bring home a lot of samples again. I'd put those with my favorite sample tiles and mull over until I found the ones that worked best for me. I might hit big box stores for vanity options or maybe check out the cabinet maker that did your kitchen (assuming you replaced cabinetry). There is absolutely no reason you have to rush on the non-fixed items like mirrors, towel holders, etc. A bathroom can be perfectly usable before you have these picked out and installed....See MoreBathroom floor tile decision help, please
Comments (29)Thanks to everyone for their concern. They are measuring today. Plumber thought it would be okay but he hadn't actually measured. I'll feel more secure when they have actual numbers. Luckily the toilet and tub are on site so they can measure. I remember from our previous remodel being worried about the inspectors catching that the toilet was too close to the tub, but no one seems to think it's a problem here (inspectors have been in and out twice and never mentioned it, so I think it must be different here). Anne, thanks! I love how it's coming along. How long did it take you to do that pattern? I love it and have easy access to dal tile, but I'm worried about committing the time to doing the design myself. I'm already doing the builtins and a bunch of other small projects. Lundy, I took a look and there are a couple of possibilities there - don't love them as much the swirly one, but definitely doable. There is so much beautiful tile on your site.. If I had more time, I'm sure I would eventually find something in the imperfects that would work....See MoreBathroom vanity solution - is this a crazy idea?
Comments (11)We very rarely have to access the attic and moving the dresser won't be a huge deal the once or twice a year we do. For now, we will put the cabinet that was over the toilet back up. There is nothing special about it, but nothing wrong with it either. I told her to start thinking of paint ideas. She painted her desk a couple of years ago with a really cool harlequin design. Maybe she will paint the cabinet too. Now that we have lightened the paint color she needs a little color in there....See MoreQuick/Cheap Bathroom Flip
Comments (40)Thank you everyone for your ideas and tips!! Our house is on the market now, and the bathroom looks heaps better! We ended up removing all the tile and vinyl tiles from the wall, repairing the drywall, and painting everything. I painted the vanity a darker color to make the ugly fixtures brighter. We were going to replace the vanity light but found that whoever installed the last one had just cut a huge hole in the wall for the wiring and there's nothing to mount a light to unless it's a wide Hollywood light (my biggest disappointment). We ended up leaving the floor due to lack of time, but recaulked everything and added a shower curtain that pulls in all the colors in the bathroom. I'm really pleased with what we did with limited budget and limited time. Thanks for your ideas!! The filtered photo is the listing photo, the unfiltered photo is mine....See Moresheloveslayouts
