Did you work with a designer or particular business for your kitchen remodel? Are you happy with the results?

If so, you could return to that designer or business for guidance. They should know what you like and what you don't like and be able to narrow down choices for you so that you can make decisions quickly.

We are in the midst of bathroom remodels and returned to the designer who helped us with our kitchen a number of years ago. Since she knew us and our house, she was able to narrow the options for us. We did have a pretty good idea of what we wanted in general terms (layout and style) but she helped tremendously with the specifics.

No, we had a budget kitchen remodel, so we went with Lowe's and picked out everything ourselves. Thus, the agonizing over each decision. :o)
And this bathroom remodel will definitely be budget as well, we are still trying to recover from the kitchen remodel and had not planned on a bathroom remodel until a couple years from now. So at this time, we are not going to be able to spend what we had planned on down the road. But it has to be done anyway.

Does it HAVE to be a quick remodel? I ask because you say "master bathroom" which suggests maybe there is another bathroom in the house. If that's the case, then I'd really look at your absolute needs and see if you can take a little more time to make certain you're happy with the end result.

Personally, I'd take a little time (maybe a day or even two) and decide what general look I want. Use pictures online from sites like Houzz or this site and find the aspects you like. Come up with a solid layout (maybe it's essentially what you have but swapping a shower for the tub) as everything goes from there. And decide on a general look (tile colors, accents or no?, painted or stained vanity, counter material, light fixture type/placement, etc) and go from there.

I'd then take another day or two and run to actual tile stores (not big box stores) and bring home all the samples I liked. In case you're wondering, I have a giant stack of samples in my basement from doing this myself. Tile is one of the first things to go in, so you want to have that picked out as soon as possible (especially if it has to be ordered).

Then while mulling over the tiles (put them in the room if possible or at least in a nearby room) and picking out favorites, I'd hit up plumbing showrooms and do some research on plumbing fixtures. Pick out your shower fixtures so that they can rough in the plumbing in the shower. You can take a little more time with toilet and sinks and faucets, especially if you generally know what you want. They can be installed after the tile.

I'd probably then hit up granite yards (or whatever counter material you want) and bring home a lot of samples again. I'd put those with my favorite sample tiles and mull over until I found the ones that worked best for me.

I might hit big box stores for vanity options or maybe check out the cabinet maker that did your kitchen (assuming you replaced cabinetry).

There is absolutely no reason you have to rush on the non-fixed items like mirrors, towel holders, etc. A bathroom can be perfectly usable before you have these picked out and installed.

I agree with getting professional help. Decisions made in a hurry are often not good decisions, so a second set of expert eyes that can help you would be money well spent. There's nothing wrong with choosing stock products in any store to be able to do the remodel faster. The problems arise when the stock products don't fit the aesthetic or are of poor quality. That's really when you need someone with a good eye and good sources to help!

It doesn't sound like you need to DECIDE in a hurry, just do the work in a hurry, so you have minimal bathroom downtime. Take as long as you need on the planning side, and then execute quickly.

I just did a guest bathroom in a hurry because my contractor had an opening. This is what I did (good and bad):
The first things you'll need are shower faucets and tile.
Shower/sink faucets: Bought them at GreenDemolitions.com, a store nearby. Prices were good, but could have matched them online. Made the mistake of buying a brushed nickel finish, which although pretty, made it harder to get accessories in a hurry.
Tile: Bought daltile for the walls, and went to a local stone yard and bought leftover marble mosaic for the floors. The remnant tile was great, and well priced. The wall tile would have been cheaper if I had bought online, or at least bought through my contractor for the contractor discount. Could have saved lots of money if I had only ordered regular tile and bullnose (+ glass or other accent tile)and not bought any chair rail. The chair rail tile pieces were 4x the price of the regular tile.
Sink and toilet: Bought at my local bath supply store. They promised it to me in a week, but it arrived three weeks later. Turns out the contactor didn't need them immediately, just the sizes/rough ins. Would have been much cheaper to buy online. Find out if getting the specs is enough immediately, and then order from wherever you want. It may not really cost you any time.
Accessories: Rush order from Restoration Hardware. Could have saved rush shipping; contractor wasn't ready for them until regular order would have arrived.
Shower doors: Local store fulfilled order quickly. Could have saved lots of money by just having a curtain (who knew shower doors cost so much) or not using brushed nickel.

Prickly, by quick remodel I mean within the next 2 - 3 weeks. We checked this afternoon and hub found a vanity he really likes (with a granite top and matching mirrors), which will have to be special-ordered and should arrive in approx. 3 weeks. Friday, we are going to see the tile guy who did our kitchen tile and pick out bathroom tile. Many thanks for the Houzz site, I've never heard of it before. I am going to see if I can find some tile ideas before Friday.

GreenDesigns, if we had a bigger budget and lived in a larger city instead of the boondocks I'd certainly consider a designer.

Weedy, we do need to decide within a few weeks. The plumber will need to remove the tub and there'll be a big hole in the wall, so the bathroom won't be functional after tomorrow morning.

eplato, thanks so much for your advice, particularly about the shower door. We are getting an estimate for a framed and a frameless shower door, sounds like those are terribly expensive? Just might have to stick with a shower curtain as well. :o)
